Hi there managed to snap, or fold rather, the tail of my 128 FLX yesterday. Quite a buzzkill. Anyway, just wondering if anyone had any advice. I'm wondering whether its worth trying to fix, or do you think underground might be able to organise me some sort of deal on a replacement?

I fixed a mutant that had its nose folded a few years ago with some carbon fibre tape (still holding up strong..) but its a lot thicker with foam adding to the strength; rather than the sheeting thats in the underground...the board is an 06, its only in its second season : (

oh, and I managed to do it 'just riding along'. actually really, I just loaded it up to pop into a jump. It's seen worse i think.

cheers

You might be able to repair it but it will never be the same... That tip will be stronger than the rest of the board - and the undergrounds are so thin that a repair is almost impossible without glassing a carbon strip along the deck of the board...

It sucks but i'd start lookin for a new board....

That sucks mate.
But look at the bright side, how amped you'll be getting a brand new baby.
I bought a second hand board, rode it once and cracked it about the same spot as yours.
Repaired it nice and strong, but lost all of the flex in the tip in doing so

underground really stand by their product, that's why they are the only brand I support.
They may replace your board...just ask!

C'moan Adrian you can do it!

I did exactly the same thing on my SX147 2007, took it into the store I bought it from and Slingshot gave me a replacement within a week or two. Definitely worth giving it a shot mate, even though I wouldn't think the warranty would last for much longer than a year

I heard they have moved to China now - I hope they are still owned by the same guys as I always had good back up service from them and surf fx's owner Ian when I broke 2 flx 132's ages ago.

I emailed Adrian just the other day about getting an FLX for myself, seems like a nice bloke and quick reply.
Send him the pic's and what happened like in your post, you have nothing to loose.

The thing is its not that incidence which caused it to break. Its the flexing fatigue over the life of the board. These pvc foams just cant take it, you get the laminate separting. Unlike a normal delamination its the foam that gets torn apart not the bond between foam and glass.

It is the main reason (cost secondly) we are seeing wood in everything now, not because its makes good boards but because wood has better fatigue life over these foams.

i know personally i would have a board that lasts 2 seasons, that is light and soft then a plank that last forever.

I agree with him. It sucks when you have no board to ride though.
