Where can a beginner kite in the safety bay / penguin island area without getting abused by some f@#k wit euro wanting all the pond area to themselves?

tell the euro to share our waters or fk off home. All for euros, good peeps generally but they've got nuthing telling locals -experienced or not-where to go, full stop.

I have kited safety bay and I know what you mean.

There is absolutely no point in lashing out at visitors. You locals will have to come to terms with the fact that the spots become more and more popular and more crowded.

Get proactive about it and form a loose group, agree on a few rules, print some t shirts and set up a tent and hold education days. And mark out runs so people can share it.

If you do not do something about it, it will develop into a **** fight experience and no one wants aggro when they are enjoying themselves.

Definitely agree with previous poster that us Europeans have no right telling locals where to go! Most of us are not so ignorant!
For me, Safety Bay is usually good with people helping each other out, riding in circuits... I find Woodies worse to kite in with people not looking etc.

I expect it will get more crowded because it is a spectacular spot, and word-of-mouth spreads quickly amongst us kiters .... but it's still pretty empty when the wind first comes up and again at around 5pm when there seem to be more windsurfers, obviously weekends are worse.

Just wish Safety Bay had a nice pub overlooking the spot for some apres-kite unwind!

If your a biginner, go to Mclarty Rd in Shoalwater for farks sake. You have no buisness to go to flatwater in the pond at Safety Bay. Don't go to penguin island point unless your looking for the local Rockingham kite school (Westoz Kiteboarding) for lessons. If your getting taught by a mate or self learning just go and do it. Don't come on here talking your crap, no one wants to hear about tight arses learning the hard way. If you don't consider yourself to be a tight arse or you don't think your safety's worth spending $500 max on a couple lessons, that's all it takes to learn even if your retarded.

In regards to Safety Bay, If WA surf want to progress there learners for jumping or whatever it is your trying to teach them on the weed bank go back to the spot you have already ruined for the chop hoppers outside the bar. I use to love going out front the yatch club using the chop for boosts, that's as good as over now considering you have flooded the area with out of control learners.

To the Euro's..... if you kite loop into me or my mates or other locals kites like in the past and cut there lines, don't pretend you can't speak English. Answer questions, pay up or fark off. If your an aussie and have a euro girlfriend and think it's cool for her and her friends to come to Safety Bay to learn then take them back to woodies or the river and see how it's accepted...

To those euro's that come down with there pink advance kiteshere's some advice. When in Australia do as Australians do We wear boardies not cock jocks, we drink beer or solo to quench our thirst we will wind up our lines whilst working on our tans

Tomorrow should be declared no Euro in Safety Bay day. I know thats short notice, the 26th should most definately be.

This is a joke... if you think one of us has done something out of line, say it and sort it out there and then. There are only a few people ignoring basic safety and being inconsiderate...

All spots everywhere are getting more crowded, and back at home, we work with the associations to advise new kiters and visitors of the unwritten rules.

WA is being heavily promoted in all the kitemags... locals should lodge your complaints with them and the kite associations if you have a basic problem with overcrowding.

Sounds like safety bay needs one of those local user groups similar to Leighton Kiters to get some order down. Its a world class destination, I think its an amazing location and the euros are going to come simply because its awesome and because they can.

Group members could have a walk around chatting to the tourists as they arrive locally, advising on local guidelines and expectations as visitor to the area. Its much easier to get them at the beginning before they grow some attitude because they've ridden there a few times.

Allocate launching/landing locations and seperate learners from pond freestylers.

Generally the euros are a good bunch, becoming familiar with one another is a warm fuzzy way of getting what you want. If they see you somewhat as a friend they are more likely to listen to you rather than someone being an aggresive tosser.

Really, locals should always rule a spot, be higher in the pecking order than visitors and be shown the respect they deserve as it is their home. It works this way well in the surfing community at famous/popular breaks, it should work the same for kiting.

If locals have problems with visitors then there needs to be words. The locals need to show a united front that visitors will respect. If they dont respect the locals, the beach, guidelines and cannot integrate then they are not welcome and need to move on.

Usually works well, everyone knows their place and is happy.

Locals rule for sure but must be proactive, rational and take control if things start to get out of hand. If as a local you are unhappy with something, it is up to you to grow some balls and sort it out directly.

I get probably 5 or so a week stop into my shop to ask about the spot. It's good when they do this because I can tell them about the riding order, ie, come in to the pond, do your trick, then ride back out past the point again.

If everyone came and asked there might actually be some order out there in the pond, but only 1 in 3 Euro Travellers actually ask about the local rules though. That's just life though, and always happens around this time of year.

As to where beginners can kite in Safety Bay, on the upwind side of the sandbank is the only place you should be trying to learn, unless there's no one in the pond. Even though we have students out there every afternoon, it is a massive sandbank and there is still plenty of space.

Lofty if you come see me in the shop I'll explain to you where we teach and what to watch out for as far as our "out of control beginners" are concerned

pretty ignorant to think that us dicks dont plan to go overseas, if we havent already. how does that take away our right speak up any way? you obviously dont understand much about kiteboarding if you are in defence of riders who are selfish and dont follow the grain. 15 locals can ride in the pond and all go out far enough get in a good rythm. 3 locals and 12 non locals which are mainly euros and it is insane. This is not some innovative concept we are trying to push you actually should have read this or learnt this when doing lessons back in the early days not only that it is common sense and basic respect. I am not embarassed to be local, so I will stay here in safety bay and maybe you can stay in freo or where ever you are. euro at heart by the sounds of it.

I'm embarrassed to be a local with all the Eurotrashing that's been going on. WA has some of the best kite beaches in the world and even with the Euro invasion for a few months of the year they're still nowhere as crowded as other beaches around the world.

Unless you dicks never plan to go overseas you've got no right to flog the Euros or anyone else coming here.

oh just so u clowns know theres a dress code for pond... minimum of boardies must be worn at all times, no you cant just cruis around in ur jocks, or speedos... speedos are a no no in the pond.

I for one never learnt in the pond and I'm pretty sure Charl and Simmo and others never either, buttttttttt for the second day in a row the same crew had to be politely asked to move on. They don't have the brains to realise they are flying an oversized kite for the wind strength at 12 oclock right in the kite crashing zone. I guess they never realised because no one could do any tricks and crash till they moved.

I'll tell you what's embarassing for a kiter. Watching a windsurfing father try and chase a pussy of a kiter (non local) to come in and explain why he's abusing his son who's a 12 year old local sailor. That was bad form, if your the North rider in question you showed no respect to kiters or poley's yesterday. I noticed the big burley poley made you leave pretty quick.
