seriously dont do it. kites arent made for that, harnesses, lines, tow lines everything can break doing that and if you hit the water from more than 100 feet without aything you could easily be knocked out or killed.

But I guess if you don't nail it in the boat, have a few QR's here and there, then it would work? That jet ski footage is gnarly... should have slowed down! Or at least made sure that the water was deeper!

Wear a seat harness and a waist harness. That way when your waist harness snaps you are still connected (add a safety line or something).

You should put a quick release on your tow line, that way when your up 100ft in the air you can release from the boat and do some 100ft kiteloops!

Yep,

We tried this back in Sydney many many years ago on a windless day and had a very similar result. A mate of mine on the tow rope spent 4 days in hospital. He was flung from around 60 feet.

It is a dumbass idea and shouldn't be done, but I'm sure you know better than people who have done it before so go ahead and help tidy up the human gene pool.

Good Luck

Yeah this is a real "Darwin Award" stunt.

Dude, kites are made for jumping big, but the forces generated by a boat towing you will be much higher than those when just jumping and coming back down. I used to tow up in hang gliders and things are way more stressed when you are attached to a static line and vehicle. We actually made hydraulic damper brakes on the tow rope reel that played out when more stress was on the rope so it didn't exceed a certain tension. Even then things were hairy.

If a gust hits you when jumping normally, you and the kite are taken with it - ie you boost higher or longer and the stresses on the kite are reduced by the kite moving with the gust. If you are attached to a boat then the kite can't move with the gust and stresses go through the roof. Same if the boat driver is less than perfect on his throttle.

If your tow rope or harness doesn't break then a line, bridle or canopy is much more likely to.

You might get away with it, but man the risks are way high.

I'd be leaving my balls at home....

I've done this, a long time ago, back when people weren't really thinking as much about the potential for things to go wrong. Or perhaps they were, but those people were busy not getting killed that day.

I'm not going to tell you whether you should or shouldn't do it, or make a comment on your viability for propagating the species. Being a kind and supportive person by nature, I'm willing to narrow my response down to this;

I give you 70% odds that you will make it and everything will be fine.

- so, 30% something goes wrong

- out of that, 25% that you'll feel it 'all up on the inside'

- and I'm going with about 10% chance of seriously ****ed up.

I'm in two minds as to whether you should film it. Kite-things in general do not need more bad publicity. On the other hand, there's my pure ghoulish curiosity....

To assist my betting average, can you tell me; how often have you hurt yourself getting dressed?

I know how often I break important bits of my kite gear just kiting normally (for me at 110kg riding well powered and not afraid to try new tricks). You wouldn't catch me trying that sort of thing.

Definitely film it!

That way the coroner can conclude it was "death by misadventure" and was not a result of "normal" kiting follies.

I think this pretty much sums it up, couldn't agree more Kitehard.

I will say though, notice the lack of responses from our Qld counterparts. I think most are thinking it will be one less kiter taking up room at the local spot. Yeah great idea mate, prove them all wrong.

if you are too do it then dont tie urself to the tow rope, just hold onto it so if the pressure gets too much you can feel it in your shoulder and just let go....if i was over r ways id be down for sure...over the lack of wind
