I have just moved out to australia from the uk, where i had two lessons. now that i have bought all my gear here i am ready to hit the water! i have been checking out all the spots around and it seems like there is a place around the corner from me, in mellvile on the river. Am planning on heading down there at about 11.30-12.00 and was wondering if anybody is going down tomorow and if they are could the keep an eye out for me, and possibly give me some tips about what to look out for down there, i will be the one with a naish 12m and a massive board! any tips on here would be great!

Huggi, in conditions like today.....after only 2 lessons it is safer for everyone if you just watch, or get an instructor give you the right equipment for learning....
.......I don't go to Melville, but I know there are a lot of kiters there, so it is not only about your safety......
....sorry to discourage, and I don't mean to underestimate your capabilities....

I weigh nearly the same as you and was reasonably well powered on my 7.5 today, on the ocean though not Melville, but as the others have said be careful and maybe only go out if it is a bit lighter than today, melville can get rather gusty.

He has different boards and kites that you can try out before you buy - he is very knowledgeable and won't try and sell you something you don't need.
FWIW I was on an 11m Rev2 today and I weigh 95 kg - what a blast !

Hey simon

being a Noob make sure you launch well out in the water, the tide is low about then, so only waist deep anyway. There are some yellow marker Buoys as the general guide to where you should be...

Drop your gear off at the first marker (1/2 way along beach) & park at other end,
lol youll figure that one out

launch with depower on !!!!

follow the others advice on kite size to save you & your kite needing repairs

If in dout - Quick Release Out ...

Just to add to the above post simon, the buoys are only for launching landing and you should be kiting further out. That's my understanding from what's been said on here a lot lately (I haven't been to Melville in years so someone please correct this if Ive got it wrong).

If you're keen to go kiting in other places shoot me a PM mate, I like to kite n different places to mix it up and it's always better when more crew want to join in the fun.
