Just got back from a 6 week stint in Mui ne Vietnam.. I went there with the mission to get my girlfriend loads of kite time. She could ride but was not able to keep upwind when we arrived: After 6 weeks her skills have improved hugely thanks to a shorebreak to navagate , very gusty wind , bumpy choppy water and ****loads of poseurs to avoid....IF you are a beginner DO NOT go to Mui ne as its a HORRIBLE place to learn, we watched for 6 weeks beginners struggling and very few getting better.
Why anyone with a good level would go to Mui ne is beyond me but if you are looking for a place to get your girl to improve in **** conditions then thats all its good for, that said there must be much beter spots in Vietnam but forget about waves, REAL WAVES that is..

We've been lucky and jagged it for the last 5 years running, got most days kiteable, but its depends upon your level of tolerance I surpose and how much beer you can drink when the wind aint so good, but thats not what you wanna hear I suspect.

Every place has its pro's and con's and for certain levels its not the easiest place I must admit. But if you think of it this way, when you go home, the old home break is not so bad after all is it, if you can handle Mui Ne then you can handle your home break much easier!! Can you buy $1 beer at you local spot, or $3.00 luxury lunch hand delivered with a cold beer chaser!!! Not is Australian anyway.

Maybe you should have had a crack at Cemetary's (Mui Ne village beach). Our last trip we spent every day there instead of the busy Mui Ne beach. Cemetary's had good waves, and the wind was always better than the very busy Mui Ne beach and for around 150 thousand ($7.50) in taxi to get there, maybe you should have given it a go. It was only 10 km's away around the corner and for the few bucks in taxi, ahh what the hell, your on holidays anyway!!.

Next time, look up Anthony at Vietnam Kitesurfing Tours, and head up to Phan Rang on one of his tours. Waves, wind, beer and flat water! Last year we took our son and he had the best time of his life in the flat water, he learned so much in one day. Maybe next time check it out!

Oh, by the way, don't forget, its been crappy all around the world with un-seasonal winds so maybe don't judge it too hard for now! Our trips have been good so far, we've had it better other years so it may come back to good again next time, enjoy the place for what it is, a great holiday destination and if you get some kiting in, what a bonus!!!

I get what your saying, there are always crew who will complain.

Was at a spot overseas,waves were all time,as good as it gets,
no crowds,warm clean clear postcard water,,,but,

They hated the place and bagged the crap out of it cause there was only the local food,no restaurants or internet??????????

We told them to go to the gold coast next time.

... dude, your right, we get wet when its over 15 knots!

Some of our best times in Mui Ne were when at the end day, with great days kiting, sitting down with some locals eating freshlly caught muscles cooked in chilli, and washed down with 3 mega liters of cheap beers and not another whitie tourist in site!! Loved it!

Dont waste your time in vietnam. had a terrible trip. the water is a dirty grey, full of dead things and floating trash. then the main beach is full of crazy russians.
