Hi guys,

I have put together a 4 min clip with some dusty footage from over a year ago, have a look if you have some time to kill, it is from a light wind session on a 9' mal' and a 15m kite (Flysurfer Speed2)... look for the 2 strange looking thing next to me towards the end of the vid ;-)

cheers,
Jacques

was that shot at long reef?. also what would be the minimum wind strength to get going with that set up, I'd be guessing 7-8 knots

Great work Jacques. I'm dusking off my mal next light wind day. We only get bull sharks in Botany Bay though, but I guess that'll have to do.

hi bennie, it was at boat harbour.

Yes, the Flysurfer Speed2 is a very efficient kite design, it can generate power out of hardly any wind. Feel free to ask me if you wish to have a go when you see me at the beach. Also, the Speed3 is expected for August/September and I was told that kitepower might have one for demo... that's going to be interesting (Flysurfer usually takes 2 to 3 years to release a new version of their kites... no need to say that it is not going to only be a change of colour scheme! well, I hope?!)

7-8 knots is probably the limit with that combo, but I guess it is hard to put a precise figure on such thing... what I noticed though is that no one can ride in less wind than this combo allows me to.

Here is another little clip I made where you can see it being flown on the beach (pilot is Mike)... nothing amazing but it shows well how the kite behaves: steady power delivery!

hi mate, yeah, that's great fun, and actually makes your TT skills improve too somehow? Strapless is probably the best way to get back safely into the sport after ligament injury (during that vid' I was also just recovering from thorned ligaments at the left ankle).

Hope you bring back some footage of the bull sharks, that should be fun to watch :D

Hi Jacques,

Thanks for the video . How did you set up the camera under the kite?

I fly Speed 1 and 2's (and others...) and have great expectations for the Speed3. I expect that it will be a mature kite.

Cheers,

Fred

Hi Fred,

The way I attached the cam to the kite was pretty much the way it is describe here:
http://www.foilzone.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=8086&start=0

Note that although I never had any problem, the risk of getting tangles is increased because of that X set-up. I would probably not try that on a high wind Flysurfer kite (6 or 8m) for safety reason: you don't want tangle to happen above 20-25 knots of wind.

If you get some footage, please share it!
