found this just a minute ago and thought how good this would be if you were traveling where there are no kikte shops about .very simple too.

Hmm that might want a few stitches in it to stop it slipping when wet (for the first few sails especially)

I think the idea was to keep the spectra line intact, not stitch or even knot it as that reduces the strength markedly, as sailors of old will know.

I'm just wondering how much of the load is borne by the casing (attached) and the core (not repaired).

And therefore, how this would compare to say a fisherman's knot.

Any suggestions? Captain?

(Oh, and without the extension pigtail/loop, you could just take up the slack in the other lines and fly with slightly shorter lines)

Is it safe? If the repaired line were a tiny bit shorter than the rest, what would happen?

That`s why he suggests adding a pigtail to make up for the line being shorter.
Not a bad idea considering the cost of new lines. But yes I would add a couple of stitches just to be safe.

Swapping the fronts to rears would also help a lot,

Knot all knots are that bad you know... "good" knots only tend to lose about 20% of the original line strength
