i would say order from the gopro website. Although i'm not sure about Australia's import tax (think its about 10% of value) because mum went over to the US and picked mine up (silver edition) for $359 which included shipping to Seattle and a floaty back door. And at jb hi fi they are selling it for $380. On the website it sells for $400 and the flat rate is about $84.95 to ship to Australia so you can either wait until its released in stores on the 30th or pre-order it.

The Aussie warranty is awesome, so I'd recommend buying from an Aussie retailer. We had some units fail, and because they were Aussie sold, the support is available, and replacement cameras were shipped out same/next day by the local Aussie distributor.

No cameras at the moment, but a big range of accessories :

buying from an Australian dealer is def good and you will have customer service and better warranty support but it makes it hard for us Aussie 'Authorized GoPro' dealers to compete with the official us gopro site if their price is way under our recommended retail prices. Aussie retail price for silver gopro is Au$379

gopro.com price is Us$299.
You will pay for shipping on top which will bring price close to retail here but a lot of people buy from website then realise they cld have bought at their local and spend a about the same.

Pay the extra few dollars and buy local for crying out loud! When are we going to learn that dollars that stay in Oz come back to us? Local purchases include GST, which goes to Julia and Wayne, which then often gets back to us in the form of ridiculous one off payments straight into our bank accounts, or employment of teachers, nurses etc.
We may save a few dollars now, but when we are reliant on other economies for absolutely everything we need, from gopros to shoes to bread and milk, we'll all be wishing we'd bought local "back then".

i feel for local retailers and the wrong that is having higher RRP than other countries. THat's why I do the best thing I can to help the situation by voting with my wallet. If we all keep propping up this artificially inflated micro economy then it will never change. Competition is good. Market forces will prevail. Import direct and make the greedy local wholesalers change their ways.

We have the silver models in and also are waiting for the blacks. All of Australia is waiting for the black models. We might see them this side of Christmas, but I wouldn't bet the house on it.

Worldwide demand is crazy and Australia is low on the totem pole of sales.

Please support your local retailer or you'll end up with the same problem everyone now has with wake board bindings.

We get one person a week come in and want to try on bindings. Very hard to find anyone in WA who stocks bindings. Reason is everyone comes in, tries them on, gets the sizing they needed and then orders from the US.

End result is there is no one local that stocks bindings and you now have to hope your purchase from the US is the correct size.

MOst small businesses are mum and dad businesses, not huge money hungry corporations posting multi million dollar profits. We employ local people and in turn spend our money in Australia, supporting other small businesses.

Right now you have a choice to buy OS or here in Oz off your local retailer, keep buying from OS and you may well have no choice in the future.

There is so little profit in GoPro, most retailers carry it as a customer service, we certainly don't do it for profit.

All Aussie retailers will get Hero 3 Black at about the same time.

I only NOW stock it because I'm sick of customers walking out the door when I tell them I have every other brand but GoPro!

gp3black is made as a marketing ploy to woo customers to buy Silver or White.

Many of it's functions are useless;
Who has a 4K tv (they cost $25K)? and at 15fps!!
Battery life is 1.5 hrs(max) Remote battery is 1hr and when enabled reduces the camera battery to minutes of use.
It freezes when shooting in low light.
And has card read issues if using the GoPro recommended 32GB Sandisk.

Hey Snowbum - can you tell us where you got this information from? I understand the thread direction, but I'd be interested in hearing how you got to the position to state this stuff..

From research into GoPro3 since it was announced - exhaustive research!
Mostly I rely on user feedback and try to filter-out brand allegiance information.
I largely ignore manufacture claims and "on-paper" spec's.

I was the first person in the Southern Hemisphere hiring HeadCams.
A professional videographer/photographer (videotographer) for the past 15years.
I upload huge amounts of video content from pov systems (my busiest period was 169 videos in 3months).

I have been using POV systems since 2007, trading in them since 2009, and I now occasionally consult network TV as an Onboard Video Specialist. But mainly I spend a lot of time advising consumers on what set up would suit their needs and keeping an eye on product development and marketing strategies in the ActionCam industry.

I will have to track down the different sites I found that info.

It makes sense to me, gp3b battery is 1100mah - wifi drains power and the remote relies on wifi.
The camera is being asked to complete a heavy workload due to the large video resolution (and 12MP stills) from a cheaply manufactured product.
There is a grand history of SD cards failing.
Personally I've found using smaller sized cards is more stable in any camera and re-format them regularly.
The problems with SD cards is widely published.

As for staying on topic;
GP3black has been increased in price from rrp$469 to $489 locally while remaining at $AU380 from GoPro
I can get them now for $570 - though the price fluctuates. Some I can purchase OS as low as $450 including shipping (depending on time of purchase) at other times up to $700.
Yesterday there was one being offered in Sydney for $999 at a retail store!
Such is the demand anf hype.

I'm not sure on seabreeze's policy on posting in a comercial sense and wouldn't want to take sales from here anyway (I've been a daily user for many, MANY years).
The time frame to get them through legit channels is the same (unknown) and the profit is so slim anyway.

My interest is purely to advise and help consumers make a wise purchase based on the most functional cams available through my expertise.

Has anyone used the one on sale at autopro? $119 is pretty cheap unless it doesn't work.

Another review (pocket-lint) only manage to record 50min of footage.

I have been hearing more and more about gpH3B and Silver having freezing issues.
Either while attempting firmware upgrade or during time lapse (after 4500 shots) or shooting in dark corners or after many hours of use.
^not hearing of the odd instance but repetitive claims.
GoPro responded to some saying it was a "bad batch". This has me worried since they have only been building them for a month or 2. How many is included in a batch?
