The Shire of Augusta Margaret River has re-opened the previously failed cut. Who knows what will happen at this stage. The access to the spit by foot is impossible, but as we all know, the cut will be blocked by sand as soon as the SE sea breeze kicks in. It looks like they made a small sand spit on the East side of the river
opening, this could possibly turn into a good launch spot; Hey, who knows the cut may even create good sand banks out the front.

Won't this be the third attempt ? Last two had no impact on being able to kite in the river.

If the front page of Saturday's The West Australian is anything to go by - that the Dawesville Cut in Mandurah was a $50million failure to stop algae blooms given the amount of nutrients still being pumped into the Peel Catchment, and the continued lack of rain in the SW - then this looks like another failed attempt in the making. It'll silt up, eventually - but I for one will be looking forward to those sandbanks before it does! On another point, doesn't the Shire appreciate just how much revenue kiters bring to the local economy??? Surely spending the hard-earned of poor country folk on the excavator could have been better spent on some designated launch areas away from The Colourpatch shower? Or was this another Royalties for Regions rort? If you stopped putting in nutrients upstream there'd be no reason to spend your rates on an excavator just to take advantage a few weeks' rain that COULD flush the estuary.

Yeh there is one about 2km long and 300 metres wide.
Strange that kiters would choose to land in a wind shadow on kids, bbqs, sunbathers, bins, and 40sqm patch of grass...
