With the upmost respect, and confidence in your sense of humour, "hookie", it should be your goal to own and ride a particular brand of kite. The Bandit.

I would think some sort of attachment to the bar would definitely be needed. Flying one handed is hard, having to change sides of the bar etc.

What part of it is dangerous with the current attachment?

could you use a snap shackle???

they release under load and once connected it would hold fine.

There is an article in issue #59 Oct-Nov '12 Page 112 on a former Israeli army paratrooper (Rami Beracha) who is kiting after losing an arm and a leg.
You may find his solutions work for you too.

Luck with progress.

Cheers

PS If U are based on the Sunny Coast PM me will try to help. I recall Uncle Ray teaching / helping someone a few years back with one arm - he may have some smart solution(s) too.

You'll be better than us at doing things with one arm, the is absolutely no need to think you definitely need both hands to kite, I fly my kite most of the time with one hand on the bar, don't let it put you off , go for it ,
