Can riders post 1) what akpo settings they are finding works well for them with their gk sonics 2) how it affects their ride/flying performance
I'm really interested to hear for 8m and 11m vsonics and get a little databank going as a shortcut for others with some rider statistics for the settings (weight, boardsize, etc) ![]()
the parts i am having trouble working out is how to match the three little knots on the front lines bridle to the right akpo settings and when to use the three little knots on the backlines near the bar ![]()
Cheers
i have extensive experience with the 07 sonics 8m and 11m, but not the V-sonics. since the A-KPO is essentially the same, i will offer my advice anyway
11m sonic
63kg rider
125 twintip
like to ride powered and boost big
light winds 10-15 knots: B3, F3/F4 on middle knot
medium winds 15-22 knots: B3, F2/F5 on middle knot
strong winds 22-30 knots: B2, F1/F4 on longest knot
i have found these to be the best for me, small changes like altering which knot of the three that you tie to can make it turn a little faster or be a bit more "boosty" in the jumps. changing B3 to B2 or B1 drastically increases the usable windrange of the kite, the stability is MUCH better as you move the rear attachment point forwards.
for the 8m, i only use it when the wind is consistently over 25 knots, and i always use B2 for the rear as it seems to flare a bit if it's on B3. the 8m is a gem of a kite, probably my favourite kite ever.
use the rear line adjusters to trim the kite at full power. try them on the shortest one, put the kite at 45 degrees and sheet in fully. if it falls back into the window (stalling) then move the knot out by one. if it still does it, move it out again to the last knot. the sonics have to fly "loose" to generate maximum power - once you have it trimmed perfectly it will generate massive power at speed. they are easy to oversheet in the hands of a newbie.
Thats awesome info thanks Neill
what does everybody else ride at?
I know my 2007 8m rockets along on B2, F2/F4 with middle knot in 25knots-ish
Thats me being a fairly noobie at 73kg and riding a 133x40 twintip
Still working on the 2008 11m, when we have enough wind to get it going again...
