Or you know it's winter when you spend more time driving around, trying to find the right beach, with the right angle for that 30 min window as the wind swings and spending more time sitting in your car at the beach, looking at Rain Radar, waiting for the next front to hit than on the water.
I actually gave up that game years ago and I'm just waiting for summer now.

I am at 260 sessions @ 4454km worth of inconsistent wind..... (I admit 500km of that was Mauritius in June).
Happy to scrounge all year round.
You know it's winter when you pull the safety BEFORE the 50 knot squall arrives, because it seems darker than normal and potentially full of tornadoes. (Perth yesterday)

you must be having a bad 2017, seems we are scrounging about the same on avg and our peak is smashing any recorded peak I come across for 2017 year for WA and we are having a shocker!
I honestly thought before doing this review of real recorded wind that WA was the wind capital of aust mainly based on the strong influence of WA talk on here. Now Im seeing our WA brothers are quite creative with their fishing stories!
Ok I see your point but what does the highest gust of wind recorded really matter it's about consistency of good kiting wind 20 to 30 knots, not the biggest gusts, compile the data of where has the most consistent wind +20 knots and then you will have something useful that everyone will be interested in
I don't know what you other wa guys have been complaining about it has been windy as f##k lately, yes it's gusty,cold, onshore, weedy and frontal but there is more swell and you get to play with different directions, I have been very happy with how consistent this winter has been so far
On another note I'm about to go surfing out at Rottnest, the buoy is reading 3.22 m at about 17 seconds wind 5 to 10 knots offshore- that's how you know it's winter

I agree yr point, but the data shows the avg's for those points in WA are mostly below that of NSW which would suggest WA doesn't beat NSW for consistency either.

I had seen the averages are higher but that does not necessarily mean more good kiting days, if you have a lot of hectic storms which are too much for most kiters and in between you have bugger all you can still end up with high averages although there have been relatively few good kiting days, yes I know that is speculation ( and maybe a small touch of patriotic bravado)
The data is taken from the month of August which is considered off season for kiting in WA. ( Although this winter has been ok) I would find it believable that Sydney has better wind than Geraldton through that month, but if you take the averages from the summer months or from all year round when it really cranks here I would imagine Geraldton would be miles ahead

Just had 5 days straight, some were mowing lawn winds and some were good fun, caught a **** load of fish too, quality time with the family, life's good when you get back to basics, winters great

Depending on where your wind reading data is coming from, your data could be very unreliable.
If they are based on BOM site data ,In W.A both the Geraldton reading and the Exmouth come from the airports which are well inland. In the case of Exmouth , because the readings are from Learmonth airport on the eastern side of Cape range, the sea breeze often doesn't get in or comes in very late..., back in the pre- internet days the common wisdom amongst the ignorant was that the W.A seabreezes stopped in Carnarvon (for those of us living in Exmouth back in those glory days of no crowds- that suited us fine) because the Learmonth readings looked tragic even though the seabreeze was 25 knots on the west side of the range...
A more accurate picture of W.A might be had from data for Cape Leeuwin, Cape Naturaliste, and Rottnest island.
But obviously NSW rocks for wind all the time so that's great... so stay there and leave us to attempt to kite in our our sad average wind conditions ....no wind here at all...
Funny that we never would of thought of putting wind stations at airports, whatever for.
i never said you get no wind, you guys claim almighty wind. I said you get about the same on avg (at aiports if you like) i think the scrounging for wind claim came from one of yr Locals.
ps you guys arent building yr airports in deep valleys are you, hang on we re landing..

Your.data still does not prove that Sydney has better kiting conditions than Geraldton, this is just not the case
when blokes can be bothered arguing in forums about stats, winds and whatever other drivel this post turned into

??? back in the glory days of no crowds? You must of been a windsurfer up here then. Are they the same days the seabreezes started sometime in August and September had wind everyday because they are but a distant memory. October seems to be the new August up here now
