Why is this not a recognised flat water spot?

I'm in Carnarvon for the day with time to kill. I went out to the 1 mile jetty to reminisce about fishing out there as a young tacker 25 years ago. And I see all this beautiful flat water to play on down at the river mouth.

Unfortunately I didn't bring my kites. The forecast said nothing about the 20 knot southerly that turned up.

But I've never heard talk of it being used likewise with inside pelican point. I know a few locals use it but that's about it?

Just got back from dirk hartog island on a solo gig, as flat water goes you'll struggle to find a better spot, blew 25knts with hardly a ripple on the water, simply a stunning location to kite

It is a recognised flat water spot. We don't talk about it for a reason but there are lots of people kiting there.
I met several French and German tourists kiting there last season as well as the locals and interstate visitors.
I drive 11,000 km round trip to kite there every year.
Dwyer's Leap in the rivermouth is great if there is a bit of West in the Southerly but usual Southerly best for Pelican Point.
Very little to no water at low tide.
I'll be there from the 30th Sept through 2nd Oct and 19th through 27th of Oct.

So Chris do you also post your address on facebook and say you're going over seas and the key is under the matt?

Yes I did think of that before i posted but any backpacker with a kite on their way north is going to ask the same question. It's a big bit of water right next to one of the only tourist attractions in town. It's not exactly hard to miss.

Yeh I had a look at the same place last year driving up to exmouth and yes reminiscing about my child hood there.

Only problem is ...it is Carnarvon!

Carnavon, was that the place i drove into, not a thing stirred except a bunch of kids screamed hardcore abuse as I drove past and threw rocks and the van, then I was filling up and see about 15 of them advancing down the road, armed with rocks and sticks, threw some cash at the servo guy and drove straight outta there... was that the place?

Yep that sounds like it! My bro and I had very interesting teenage years. That place has something really really wrong with it. We did learn how to fight well and run fast!!!

Ummm let me think...85 to 89...,

Hey we were there at the same time man! My dad...Keith perry used to be the music teacher at east Carnarvon primary school.

Lived in Morgan town...for a while then up at Babbage island.

Took my wife to the chicken treat there on the way back from exmouth. Kids were in their pyjamas, doing the night time dash, and I counted 7 different groups of people come in, more unsavoury than the next. She said we had to go...and she will never step foot in that town again.

I said...

Told ya so.

It's Canarvon, more tourist activity is the last thing they need to worry about

Kiteboy Dave, my mate ran into the same problem fueling up his boat and ended up breaking the bowser to avoid trouble lol

i go to carnarvon twice a month for work and always kite here, (actually going back up this monday) nothing new heaps of locals kite on the gascoyne river, peli point works the best on the seabreeze. couple of months ago you could kite next to a front end loader submerged on the point which added some sight seeing.

alot of bull sharks in the mouth though so keep that in mind, couple locals have been ambushed by them iv only seen them dart around me thankfully, couldnt find a more friendly bunch of kiters than here.
