Just recently returning from Warnambool (Victoria), I was blown away by how awsome the local beach was.
It was a saturday afternoon, the sun was shinning and there was a 10 knt wind.
I know it wasnt ideal kiting weather (not windy enough), but what A GREAT spot for a ride.
To paint a picture, the beach is about a km wide, atleast 300m out (beyond this is the breakwall and it is ruff).
Because of the breakwall the bay section of water is butter smooth and further east along the beach you get into the surf, which was'nt to big.
Was it just being at the right place at the right time?
Or is it just a perfect place to ride (well I think so anyway)

I have riden this place about 4 years ago and had an awsome time (mind you I had to look out for surfers "pesky little shark buiscuts")

What is your favorite place to ride?

P.s.(Please post some replys, as I would love to check them out one day.)

Thanks Laurie G (lrg)

Haha, I can understand why you want to under-sell the place... You don't want it to get too popular BUT...

Butter-flat water in most wind directions behind the sandbar

+

Awesome crew (Not only get a landing but often a kite pack down whilst winding lines)

= Easily the best spot around Brisbane to kite

Don't forget a ban on putting kites on the grass, and nowhere else to put them at high tide.

That is true; however.
Needless to say that is why you won't see most of us there on weekends anymore; the risk is becoming increasingly dangerous around school holidays and with the new park; near impossible to get a parking place (unless you're lucky like me), kids, prams and people EVERYWHERE....

But yes, the butter flat water, depending on tide, and only on a Nly on the 'manly' side of the sand bar, whilst the sand bar is exposed, and when windsurfers aren't in the way as well as other kites... its fantastic! [}:)]

Yeh ad the $375 fine that Council still issue; she has been there the last two weekends fining people for parking up on two wheels and such.... ohhhh Wello =[

I'd have to say Sodwana Bay in South Africa. Not the best waves, not the best flatwater, but so many awesome sessions there. It might have something to do with having to drive 7 hours from Johannesburg to get there, a great local crew and having a really nice party vibe after dark. Every trip there is a like a mini kite holiday, and the wind is regularly 20+ knots, often 25+ knots.

I agree, Sodwana Bay and Kite Beach, Durban. Kite Beach, Durban you get your lines run out and your kite pumped up and after your session everything packed up nice and neat for the equivalent of about 2 dollars.

And the waves are so good for surfing and kiting!

Check out ocean2air.co.za/ for more much better pics.

Sorry, I'm not telling, I only just stumbled across it myself a couple of days ago but I will say that the bronzey's outnumbered the kites kite.
(It's a poor colour quality photo as it is just a frame captured of a video.)

I am not going to confirm or deny anything on this forum but Im sure there will be a few people that have kited it that will recognise the location despite the poor photo.
In this day and age of internet forums and google earth I think it is still good to have places left to discover.

The best place I've ridden is Witsand on the Breeder river mouth in RSA

The sand bank looks like it's moved but flat water one side surf the other. The prevailing wind is Southeaster. Only down side is the Zambezi sharks. Go to the local Fishing Club, and ask about the Sharks. The the photos they have will Scare you half to death. And stories of sharks jumping into there boats might just finish you off

Downwinders there were epic. Bummed im going to miss the comp there this year.

Spent 3 nights in Witsands last year as well. Have never seen such windy conditions with such flat water before.

Awesome place when theres wind. blows straight over the sand. waves one side flat water the other. usually not that brown.

Witsands again. was blowing so hard this say you could hardly stand up. and look how flat the water is

My # 1 spot. Never been kited before us. By far the best place I have ever kited or seen. Huge S shaped sand bar snaking up the middle of the river and created perfect little parallel waist deep lagoons. Tide would wrap around all the sand bars so you could always find 8-10kts extra.
