Looking to buy a kite from someone interstate. What's the safest option for the transaction?

There used to have COD from auspost but this has been discontinued.

Just bought a kite off a guy in wa....no problems at all!!
Didn't use PayPal or anything like that, just dropped the money straight into his account....kite arrived in 3 days through Australia Post to the goldy....

My advise, ring the person and speak to them....face time even....as dafish said, trust ur gut and do ya homework, if it doesn't feel right....don't handover ya hard earned....

A legitimate person will answer ur questions correctly and usually do as u ask to make it a smooth transaction, Duncan took videos and pictures for me and answered ALL my questions....took photos just prior to sending it.....thanks again Duncan!!!

I have been caught twice.Had a gut feeling and didn't follow it.The scammer only texted.He didn't follow up with post or freight consignment tracking details.
I have always asked for direct deposit and a screenshot of transfer confirmation.
I have sold heaps of kiting equipment on Seabreeze and plenty of repeat satisfied customers.
Would definitely encourage anyone to ring up and have a chat.Ask questions or request more photos build up your positive feelings of trust between both parties.Can usually tell within a short conversation whether it feels good or not.Go with your gut feeling.
I will be prepared to negotiate postage or price to a point.Makes both parties feel comfortable with their purchase or sale.
Imo PayPal is a bit annoying fees,charges and waiting days for money to clear so I can Transfer into my bank account .

Done both, PayPal and straight deposit. Talking to other person is a good suggestion - if the seller does not know much about kiting I go Paypal (I as a buyer pay the Paypal fees -3% or so?). It is insurance for me to make sure I get what I paid for, seems fair to me that I pay for it.

The only problem I ever had is an overstated condition of goods, so my suggestion is to get lots of photos of areas that reflect the condition of what you buy.

Anyone OS that is interested in paying all the extra postage and waiting time is most likely a scammer, and they usually ask lots of dumb questions. I steer well clear of OS buyers

While that may be so, my transaction with the dude from Japan was all good. I got paid, he got the kite he wanted.

Odd that someone from Japan or anyone OS would want to buy a kite or gear, I would have thought the cost of freight would make it not worthwhile. I guess Japanese do strange things and not short of money.

I sometimes get interest from strange and faraway countries, usually a series of dumb questions is a red flag. If you wait till you get paid first then all good.

Gear in Japan is really expensive from what I've heard.
