After putting a few more layers of fiberglassing on my standard surfboard i decided to use it to kite with to, it goes great, but the only problem is after 10mins the wax is just way to slippery. I dont really want to put a pad on it because i still plan to surf it aswell, so are there any tricks to it? And whats the best wax to use? Any one tried Moster Grip?
I've been using a tropical wax as a base coat, then S*x wax dream cream as a top coat. You only need a tiny amount of the dream cream, otherwise it gets everywhere and sticks to everything! It also seems to fix the problem where I leave the board in the hot car while I'm at work, and the wax patially melts and goes slippery. You can still add more base wax when needed, then a little more top coat. Other brands have similar products now as well.
I asked similar thing a year or so ago, someone posted a link to 'how to wax a surboard' website, which I found really useful. I dont want pads on my board either. www.surfscience.com/topics/learn-to-surf/surfing-101/how-to-wax-a-surfboard/ The wax technique worked well, as I have good bumps now, but it still gets a bit slippery, maybe it is from the warm car etc? Will look out for the 'dream cream'
Use to grab a hand full of wet sand and rub it over the wax everytime before a surf, wash the sand off and test the grip, if needed then repeat. Works great and the wet sand dosnt get stuck in the wax.
U got it dude! Wax it up with a base coat of hard wax and top coat warm or tropical palmers is a good top coat! Sex wax blue or orange for a base! Only should need to top up the top coat before each session slightly! Also carry a wax comb if possible, and maybe some extra wax if ur out on mega session downwinder :)
When doing the initial coats of base wax, make sure the board temperature is cool, well cooler than the wax being applied otherwise it won't stick and just ball up.
Not normally a problem for surfers as they generally apply wax in the morning to a cool board but a definite issue for us in the afternoons.

Hands down the best wax available. Nearly every pro is on it. Don't mix it with another wax though. Takes a few sessions on a new board to feel good. I think you get a coating on your foot as well as your board which acts like rosin powder. Nightmare if it gets on your car seats or carpet so if youre a hairy little monkey you may not like it. Now freely ($5)!available in Australia after black imports from brazil. I used to do the sex wax base coat and palmers top coat. Banana wax is way better, but is does look different and is soft especially in tropics. I don't get the bare patch as much with it. Wish it could do the same for my head.
make sure your wax and your board isnt hot when you wax up. when the wax is hot it wont stick to your board. splash some water on your board to cool it down before you wax it.
