WAKSA members will have received mailouts recently advising of a fund raising event WAKSA is conducting for Redkite - supporting children and young people through cancer. The event is a downwinder which will cater for kiters of all skill levels. Depending on your skills, confidence and the wind you will have the opportunity to kite from either Leighton to Brighton Beach, or from City Beach to Brighton.

The event is scheduled for SUNDAY 6th DECEMBER 2009.

We want kiters registered and ready for a briefing at the grassed area near Brighton Beach at 1.30pm. From here buses; generously provided by THE DOWNWINDER bus service will transport kiters to their chosen starting point. Kiters will then kite back to Brighton Beach where WAKSA will host the obligatory sausage sizzle and soft drinks for all participants. Prizes will be announced and awarded on the day.

The key thing with this event is to raise funds for Redkite. To encourage everyone to get into the spirit of things and to max out the dollars raised we have joined a specialised fund raising site. All participants should logon to everydayhero.com.au/events/event_has_finished/805 where you can set up your own individual fund raising effort. Or you can make it even more fun by creating a team effort. See the site for details - it's simple and it's fun. All kiters raising funds through the 'everydayhero' site will be eligible for a great range of prizes. All other WAKSA members participating will be asked for a $20 donation to participate on the day.

So far, we have had several hundred dollars worth of prizes donated to the event by a range of generous sponsors including:
Mills Records in Freo - (Australia's oldest Independent record store since 1945)
Surf Sail Australia,
Star Surf,
Australian Kiteboarding School,
Auswind
WAKSA is also contributing 2 complimentary tickets to Kitestock 2010.

We know you will all have joined WAKSA well before Dec 6th but just in case there are any late joiners, WAKSA registration will be possible on the day.

Perth kiters, here is an opportunity to dig deep in support of a wonderful charity whilst having a great day on the water. Do not hesitate to visit the website above, enter your name or team and start raising $$ for Redkite.

If there are any WAKSA members, family or friends who are interested in volunteering for a few hours on the day, please don't hesitate to contact us waksa@waksa.org.au.

Stay tuned to SeaBreeze and www.waksa.com for more details over the coming weeks.

Ok folks, the sponsorship contributions continue to grow for this event...the list of prizes is growing with each day...

So far, we have had several hundred dollars worth of prizes donated to the event by a range of generous sponsors including:
Mills Records in Freo - (Australia's oldest Independent record store since 1945)
Surf Sail Australia,
Star Surf,
Australian Kiteboarding School,
Auswind

We are now happy to announce that SOS Surf Company has joined the list of kite shops who are contributing sponsorship & prizes to the event...

As it stands right now, a number of individual kiters have managed to raise a total of $965 for Redkite. There are two kiters who seem to be very keen to get their hands on the prizes. The more people we get registered for this event, the better, and the more $$ we raise for Redkite.

Remember - this event is about having fun on the day AND doing some good for a very worth while charity.

Come on Perth kiters...you know you want to!!

Sounds like fun and for a good cause, good onya WAKSA cheers for organising it. It's a shame that you organised it on the weekend I am on a charter out to the islands up the coast though, would it be wrong of me to hope for no wind down here so it's put back to the following week.

Tightlines,

Sorry that you won’t be here to take part in the WAKSA – Charity Downwinder. We have a back up date for Sunday 20th December but we hope that date won’t be necessary as it’s pretty close to Christmas.

By the way people, our fundraising efforts slipped past $1000 overnight. Good work to those making that extra effort but it would be great to have a few more lined up on the website!!! Remember folks, to go in the draw for the prizes you need to be raising funds through the event website www.everydayhero.com.au/event/waksadownwinder09 or for those who just want to participate on the day, it’s a $20 donation on the day.

We have substantial contibutions from a range of kite shops and record shops to entice you into raising $$ folks, as well as the chance to win free registration & entry to Kitestock MMX.

A number of participating kiters have already been out there doing some exceptionally good work on behalf of Redkite - the total raised so far has just passed the $5,000 mark which is a significant increase since our last post. It looks like there is some very serious competition amongst Perth kiters hoping to pick up some of the prizes below...

In case you weren't aware there is more than $1500 worth of prizes up for grabs, including

Free entry to Kitestock 2010 for two lucky punters;
A new harness from SOS Surf;
CD's from Mills Records;
Vouchers from Surf Sail Australia, Airborne Kiting, & Windforce;
An Imp trainer & Progression DVD from AKS
T-shirts & caps from Star Surf.

All you need to do is do your bit to raise some $$ for Redkite - log on to everydayhero.com.au/events/event_has_finished/805 and start raising funds for Redkite. The clock is ticking folks - the event is only five days away.

The Downwinder is open to all WAKSA members - if you haven't registered on this site we will ask you to make a $20 donation on the day.

Downwinder Details:
Date: Sunday 6th December 2009 - yes, that's this SUNDAY!!!
Location: Meet at Brighton Beach (grassed area near the kiosk) - look out for the WAKSA flags
Registrations: From 1.00pm. Looking at the forecast today, we expect to drop kiters @ Leighton sometime between 2.00 & 2.30pm. The bus wil drop those of you doing the City Beach leg at City Beach sometime between 3.00 & 3.30pm

The obligatory, post down winder Sausage Sizzle & refreshments will be available upon return at the Brighton Beach.

WAKSA would like to acknowledge the contributions made to this event by the sponsors - the shops listed above, as well as the Downwinder bus service, Island 2 Island Beverage Company and the British Sausage Company

Moon,

BoM is currently showing:
Sunday: S/SE winds 18/23 knots shifting S/SW 20/25 knots in the afternoon.
The SB forecast is showing a tad more than that as you can see.

We will be watching wind strengths over the next couple of days, but due to the arrangements we have made with coach hire, safety boats etc, the event is still scheduled for Sunday afternoon, albeit maybe a bit earlier than previously advised.

The bus will be arriving @ Brighton about 1.30pm. As soon as it's full, it will take off for Leighton. If you're keen on coming down, it might be a case of first in, first on the water, & first one back to Brighton...and first prize???

Registrations open @ 12.30pm on Sunday. Hope to see you & lots of others @ Brighton.

For those of you not already WAKSA members we will need you to join up in order to do the downwinder. We will have forms on hand for any one not already a member.

One of the participants' workplaces is matching $ for $ the contributions made via the Leighton team...when we factor the matching contribution, Perth kiters have managed to raise over $11,000 for Redkite.

It's a sensational effort from every body concerned, and there's more to come tomorrow.

Just a couple of things for those attending:

Registrations open @ 12.30

Safety Briefing will be about 1.30pm

Bus leaves for Leighton once it's full.

Looks like we are going to have a great day out tomorrow. Don't forget there's a sausage sizzle & refreshments after the event.

Hope to see lots of you at Brighton tomorrow.

Great fun today. Thanks WAKSA and esp. Juddy whom I met for the first time.

As per usual I had my kite mare at Swani. A really nice guy and I crashed and we just looked each other in the eye and were calm and cool. To make a long story short....I ended up re-rigging and relaunching in the path of a naked vision and her fully dressed man. My body is stuffed and exhilarated....thanks again for a great day.

Had a great time yesterday, so thanks to the WAKSA crew, especially the Judmeister, Nat, Jo, Mark and Brad, for making a fabulous event!

Pity I cant hardly move today- the consequences of being unfit and not having a small kite for the bigger winds... have to get out this arvo to loosen up!

I agree awesome fun day. Really good downwinder until just past city beach , I stuffed my Knee, dropped the kite in the wave zone then made a nice bow tie out of it pulled the pin and ended with tangelled lines, packed up and walked and thanks to the bus for the pick up.
But despite all that a fricken great day, well done everyone on the WAKSA crew.

Cheers

Thought you had your eye on a sweet 7m Nic?

Pity to have missed it as these are great days (spesh when the wind actually shows up). Still got a solo sesh as the only kite on a DW late arvo. Sweet breeze at last!

When is the next one?

Big thanks to WAKSA for the event - Also a big thanks to someone who dragged in my old mans blue best board and put it on the beach. He had crashed just near leighton and his lines powered the kite into continues loops - Was a great run trying to catch up to everyone after i finished towing him in haha
