After a sensational inaugural event in 2009, Sunday 5th December 2010 sees the return of the WAKSA Charity Downwinder for this year. Once again, funds raised by participating kiters through this event will be donated directly to Redkite – supporting children and young people through the cancer journey (www.redkite.org.au).

Following last years’ format, the event will again be conducted in two stages; Leighton to Brighton, or for newer kiters, from south City Beach back to Leighton.
This year, prizes include a 50’ Samsung television for the individual kiter who raises the most money, and every kiter who raises more than $200 goes in the running to win a new ‘Duke’ thruster from the Mark Shinn range of kite surf boards.

Once again, due to public liability insurance requirements from local and state government agencies, a current WAKSA/AKSA membership is an entry requirement.
Our friends at Redkite have already set up the fund raising website. To register for the event, go directly to www.everydayhero.com.au/event/waksadownwinder2010, click on the ‘Build Hero Page’ to set up your individual or team fund raising page, and start raising $$$ for a most worthwhile cause. If you don’t want to raise funds through the Every Day Hero site, there will be an easy $20 entry fee on the day.

WAKSA will provide transport on the day as well as on shore back up throughout the event. The obligatory sausage sizzle and softies will also be available for all participants once back at Brighton. Prizes will be distributed on the day.

Guys and girls – last year we had 68 kiters on the water and managed to raise over $13,500 for a very good cause. The challenge is on again for WA kiters – can we beat last year’s figures and show the WA community that kiters can dig deep for kids in need???

WAKSA Charity Downwinder – Sunday 5th December 2010 – be there...

Far be it from us to disallow fancy dress – in fact several of last year’s participants took part in costume. Whilst there is no prize purely for fancy dress, obvious efforts to impress (whether by costume or funds raised for Redkite) will make you stand out from the crowd…and increase your chances.

Crew,

we launched the 2010 Charity Downwinder just over 24 hours ago...

Since the launch, we have already raised over $500 for Redkite...amazing effort from a couple of crew already and a great predictor for the event...keep up the sensational work...and imagine just how much we might be able to raise this year!!!

End of week one and a number of WA kiters have already managed to raise almost $840 for Redkite - a sensational effort so early!!

Just remember - this year, a brand new, 50" Samsung plasma TV is up for grabs to the kiter who raises the most funds for Redkite.

For those of you looking to pick up that prize, register now at:

I heard a rumour there might be a board up grabs as a door prize amongst all those raising over $250
Or maybe it was one ticket for every $250 you raise.

Hmmm. I'd like to see that
