WA kiting holiday

Suggestions for mid to late January 2018 kiting hol for about a week.
1 x intermediate kiter and 1 x almost kiter looking for flat water and also waves.
Currently in Port Douglas Qld. We've done Fiji, Broome, Nhulunbuy, Aus Kite Surfari and Solomon Islands.
Want to steer clear of the pond and Lancelin has been suggested already so would really appreciate options available. We'd prob hire a car out of Perth (maybe even catch a bus).
Would like accom beachside at a kite spot if possible.

I have 17, 12 leading edge and 12 foil, a 10 and a 7. What is recommended to bring?

This time of year it's usually non-stop wind an all of the west coast, with the occasional trough, where the wind will just almost stop for a couple of days then return with a vengeance. When the wind is on, you'll fly a 7m 80% of the time and sometimes you'll wish you had a 5m.

Agree with Cauncy and Dave W, Dongara is the best of all worlds but there are many places to explore -- Lancelin and Cervantes also great spots.

One thing to keep in mind if you plan on being anywhere north of Shark Bay is that late Jan is the peak cyclone season, so you need to have a contingency plan.

Exmouth and Coral Bay are spectacular but don't try and drive there from Perth if you only have a week. Not by any means certain there will be a cyclone during this time, but your odds are probably one in four or thereabouts. When a cyclone forms, all the normal weather conditions will go out the window while it's around, and the effects can hang around for 10 days or more and you could end up not kiting. On the other hand, if you get it good, it's one of the best places in Oz to kite.

Shark Bay is awesome for flat water, south of Denham.

Around Geraldton it's Coronation, South Coronation and the best place is Oakajee, but it's accessible by 4WD and on low tyres only. Forget Gnaraloo, you'd need at least 10 days unless you want to just drive straight there from Perth and spend the entire trip there.

If you only have a week, you should probably fly to Perth and spend the week in Lancelin, Cervantes and Dongara and save the other spots for another trip when you have more time.

Don't want to be further than 4 hours driving from Perth airport.
Only a week so yes, don't want to spend it on the road.
3 days one place then 3 days another would be ideal. That accommodates travel times from Perth and then back again.

Johnymc do three days coronation beach or lancelin)..pick the swell three days :-) do the other three days pond or margaret river esperance whatever.. for flats stop at hideaway bay.they r the most popular out of perth spots.coros camping cheap and lovely caretaker.exm is too far for you sadly..besides...sept oct nov in exm rocks the planet with whales and waves and things... (pic)....
For future reference you need at least three weeks to get an idea of all w a coastline has to offer

Another suggestion heading south (1hr) you could try Mandurah estuary for flat water/ Avalon beach for small waves. Keep heading a further 2-2.5 hrs south to Augusta estuary for flattish water/ margaret river coastline for waves. Plenty of other great things to do around Margs and Augusta in the morning before the wind strengthens. 7-10m is right for most people that time of the year.

Look north , had the joint to ourselves, great sets rolling out the back, also made great ramps for some airtime ,bloody top spot , wed/ thursday im hoping if all goes to plan

Thanks again. Will a wetsuit be needed for kiting spots 2-4hrs north of Perth?
Water here atm is about 30 degrees. Stingers and crocs everywhere so we need stinger suits and bar mounted shotguns.

What's a wetsuit ?

lol if you haven't seen the forecast we got 37 degrees tomorrow and 39 the next. I've not worn a wetsuit since august.

If you downwind to the lagoon at Dongara from my cafe there's a great bit of butter flat to flatish water,
youll possibly have it to yourself, little ramps wash over the reef , not for noobs though,

Mandurah is a heap of ****, choppy less wind than Perth and other areas. Plus there are **** loads of cobbler, crabs, rocks and sting rays just waiting to get you.
