hey guys,

I'm studying engineering at uni and trying to come up with a final year project to do.
I'm kind of keen to make a hydrofoil board (like in the link) for surfing or maybe kiting but I can't really just make it - I need a purpose or aim for it.
Anyone have any ideas??
Basically Im trying to find a way I can go surfing or kiting for uni

Cheers

How about having several hydrofoil devices attached to a turbine to generate power from sub surface waves. On the surface therefore no unsightly constructions. These hydofoil things pick up energy from an unbroken wave. Hey... but you are the engineer...

I had actually thought about doing this but there is already another group doing that project

Find a way of increasing the efficiency and speed of a kite board by reducing the wetted area and lifting the board above chop to smooth out and reduce the negative impact of chop.

"need a purpose or aim for it."
My satisfaction not enough?

How about best race board in the world.

Surely you could partner with a kite board company.

i can help with graphics/laminates 3d design. i'm an industrial designer.
Here's a board i sketched a few weeks back, (only spent 2 hours on it)when i was considering forking out a grand for a custom. Got a used board while i save up.

What degree you studying?
I'm in mech eng and I'm in the same boat.
Something fluid based wild be the way to go, depends if you do a computational analysis of it.
Your aim could be something along the lines of creating a maximum lift foil for given water speeds.
A cfd package could be used to measure lift and drag with possible designs,

Looks like a north board with new logo...

I'm, currently completing my thesis for Mech Engineering as we speak...if only I'd thought of a fun topic like that :/
