After all the bickering, snide comments and general one-upmanship on this website for the past few weeks, it was great to see genuine kitemateship at Telephone Box, Cottesloe in 25kt conditiions about 7pm last night. One bloke self-rescued out the back nearer Dutchies and self-sailed in, using his downed kite in a 'U' shape, to about halfway between the Telephone Box steps and Cottesloe Groyne over those knarly, shelf-like reefs, but got his bar caught in a crevice for about 10 minutes in the whitewash (bet it felt like more, mate). While others stood around, another bloke, after a few choice jumps near the stuck guy , came in, dropped his kite, ran down and swam out through the whitewash to pull the bar out from its snag and wind up the lines in the water. They shook hands on the beach. Cool.

a better story and outcome then some of the others. Champion effort, beers should be involved.

great stuff...

I had a similar story ( but not as dramatic ) on Sunday ... I was inflating my kite at Applecross and the hose kept coming off ... a fella came over with a bag of cable ties and sorted the problem ... good vibes people

Awesome! Great to see some camaraderie around the place. It's been getting way selfish of late in The West.

Yep that was me.

Had a nightmare 500m out from shore, inverted my kite after a jump, pulled the safety and self rescued in. All was going well until I got 100m from shore, my lines wrapped around the floats marking someone's craypot and became snagged. I had to unclip the lines from the kite which proved quite difficult in the whitewash and 25+ knots. As you mentioned, It definitely felt more than 10mins Alverstone.

Jono saw I was in a bit of difficulty so the came in, self landed his kite in 25knots +, unclipped from his bindings, swam out and brought my lines in.

What a legend, I'll make sure I buy you a few pints if your heading upto Kitestock this weekend.

I find there's a good crew down at Dutchies, most people look out for each other including the windsurfers.

Cheers
