Checked out the blue eye squids & they look great.

I'm more interested in preserving my sight, so quality is important.

Because I wear a lid I will never lose them, haven't lost my current sunnies and they are just servo sunnies I've had for about a year!

Last season, we had a couple of pairs delam, and once told, we instantly sent a replacement pair of sunnies, free of charge.

so there lies the dilemma do i buy cheap or do i buy quality

I agree with all that - water beading and fog up due to sunblock and hair grease accumulation on the lenses usually means that the lenses are obscured after an hour of kiting and it's completely irrelevant how much you have spent esp as some of the most expensive glasses are not even polarised.

Having tried all the sunnies i use a hat. What a revelation. You can tilt your head down and the brim keeps all the glare out and when you jibe to come back in you can look up and see. Also saves a lot of sun damage to the face and keeps your head warmer in winter. Even better if youre losing your hair. FCS do a good one that I have backed up with a neck string as it occasionally gets blow off by a big wave.

I now notice most of the older blokes at scarbs starting to wear hats now. Go the hat!

Only downside is reduces your window of view and other kiters can blindside you more easily

I am a 43 year old kitesurfer/surfer/stand up paddle surfer and I am now wearing seabreeze polorised sunnies when kiting and stand up totally stoked and I can go to night shift without looking like i have been on the bong all day!!

There are lots of brands of good quality safe sunnies available, and I went once down the road of the bunnings/caltex sunnies .. they're all nice and "cheap" and work well while you're just putting araound, but once you do the above (a faceplant), and end up with the lens in your eye socket .. you quickly realise how a "cheap" or "inappropriate for watersports" sunglasses can take your sight .. all for saving a couple $.

For me, it wasn't worth it.
