from what i've heard about them they are pretty dodgy and dangerous to use. i was offered one for a boat launch once but after a quick look at how they work i opted to stay with a drift launch.....

i think they are called a turbo launcher, just be wary of it

There are plenty of safe (well, as safe as things can get) ways of launching your kite without using any kind of assisting device.

if anything, I'd say the use of assistant devices just complicates matters and makes it more prone to accidents.

That said, boat launches could be the exception to the rule (as they are pretty complicated anyway) but I haven't had much experience in this.

If you are going to use one, look for something called a Wombat by Rapid Anchor. It holds 500kgs so its not going anywhere if something goes wrong.

They work easy as, once you learn how to use it properly. Great for launching from boats and at beaches where there is not enough room to run your lines or lots of debri around. Videos on how to use them can be viewed at http://www.kitelauncher.com/.

Just had a look on their web site and there`s a heading " How to launch in off shore wind." Since when is it advisable to go kiting in off shore winds?
Unless you kite on a river, small lake or a serious horse shoe shaped bay that`s not good advice for obvious reasons.
I can see it being usefull for boat launchers.
A bit too fidly for me, but I guess once you get used to it.

Seen some one out there using a pole thingey too self lauch . As i was going too fast i didnt stop too ask him where he got it from . Later i got there he was gone, asked others and i was tolled it was a pipe with like a cork srew on it he just wound it into sand like umbreller pole ran lines to it and attached kite lifted kite up and it sat on the edge of wind window went to other end and connected up and was off . Any thoughts and were can i get one ? Better than draging a bag around that you fill up with sand .

Why don't you learn to self launch your kite safely?

what type of kite is it?

For one, with the standard method of self launching, you drag your leading edge along the ground where it can get cut by shells, and the self landing method involves crashing your kite into the ground.

Sounds like an old school Pole Tennis set adapted for kite launching.

I heard you just get one of the rockspiders over the sand dune to hold your bar

Here is a site that sells them online

http://www.yachtandboat.com.au/shop/item/rapid-anchor-system-the-wombat

There is also one made specifically for kiting you can order here:

www.thekitebuddy.com/

I'm not sure how much weight the second one would hold, or whether it would be deep enough to handle a kite going through the window.

your right about the self lauching, but its good over here cause we have nice open sandy beaches...but theres no need to crash your kite into the ground to land it!!
