How many weeks can you go without a decent Kite before you have to start saying "I used to kite"?

www.seabreeze.com.au/graphs/vic_last30.asp

Or is it like those people who say they surf because they own a surf board?

Sigh... winter tends to bring out depression and other anti-social ills for a whole host of reasons... lack of sun (vitamin A)... bitter cold... girlies covering up theyr'e Rubinesque bits...

I think this time of year we are essentially designed by nature to hide out in our caves and whack anything that appears in the cave entrance!!

If there was a god he/she (must be a she - she just wasn't concentrating the day she got guys bods very wrong )would make the winds turn on in the warmer afternoons of winter.. Then of course we could spend all of summer working on tans and wining and dining lovelies, instead of making pathetic (to the listener) excuses to our other halves as to why today is the day that needs kiting not quality time...

Brace yourselves it's gonna be a long slow winter.. I will at least have the comfort of an overdue shoulder op to contend with so i won't be able to get out anyhoo...

Wish I could be a bear and wake up when it's October.

Take up landkiting! I can go out on my 4m Ozone Samurai upto 15kts then it's too much for me and I switch to the water. I know it's not the same kind of rush but you're still out there flying a kite and there's that added risk factor that you can break bones more easily on the land ;-)

Time to start searching for your winter kicks when there is no wind......there's plenty of options you just need to look around!

I want to go wakeboarding again. Anybody got a tow? Used to run the UWA waterski club and we boarded & skiied all through winter although that was years ago. Anyway I am good with paying for fuel and driving and helping clean up etc. so PM me if you need a 'gofer'

Hey stop the pay out on us inline skaters, I love my rollerblading, getting big air opn a half pipe is way more of a rush ten any air i've done kiting.
If you want to take up a sport that will help your kiting get your self a trampoline hey. keeps you fit and is lots of fun if you dont fall off :-)

I used to hang glide and paraglide for 10 years - awesome fun but too far to travel from Perth to get some decent air time ... compared to a 200m walk to Scarborough Beach! And a 17m FlySurfer is way cheaper than a paraglider

I hear paragliding is more addictive than kiting.

Yea, rollerblading is good, as is golf and other sport. I used to rollerblade a lot, but find unless I get really smooth pavement my knees don't like it

Looking forward to The WA Snow Dome for those none windy days, going to apply to be a lift attendant

Hey Lach, I have used a kite with the Freelines - In N wind the bike path at South Perth is good fun. In S wind the Nedland foreshore in front of Steve's Hotel. Heaps of spots along the coast in W wind but need to fly the kite on bridle lines only to eliminate any chance of a kite across any roads. On the bike paths I keep the kite high out of other path users way.

I hope to have some video footage to go with the Vigorboard and DirtSurfer clips with kites @ http://members.iinet.net.au/~ianyoung/skate.htm

Alex Sanz has also used them with a kite. I thought he was passing on the demo set of Freelines to you to try out?

i crave the snow dome, even if its only 90m thats enough to hit 10 of 15 or so rails/jumps.
cardrona takes a lot of effort just to hit your fav slider once, imagine your progression if you could jump on a moving walk way and go the same trick 1 min after you last tryed it.
