The seaway is not the spot, unless you want to fight huge tidal flow and jump trawlers, drop your kite on rocks or kill a scuba diver. The seaway wind is very gusty and unpredictable and in most sections there is no wind. Kiting anywhere near the seaway ie. spit or staddy is not a good idea. Although sliding the pumping jetty sounds fun.

As you can appreciate the surf can be treacherous when swell is over a metre
there a days when its quite safe and days when it is deadly
Golden Rule: when in doubt don't go out

The best place for you to go would be Hollywood Showgirls. Looking at the forecast I can't believe this thread has lasted so long, It's gonna be 10knots and pretty much offshore at every spot.

It looks terrible sorry mate. Seabreeze is forecasting South, but I reckon it could be more WSW....

Shame I don't live up that way any more young dudester. You seem like a nice kid. Hopefully some of the crew up that way can adopt you and show you the ropes. You will be carving Currumbin in no time once you get the show on the road.
Must be hard being in boarding school, hopefully someone close by can introduce you the the real "boarding" school.
Ignore the sea way stuff. 20 years ago when I lived up there I had a property in the Currumbin Valley and we used to make the drive to surf south straddie. The sand bypass was only new and we never saw it crowded because of the issue of paddling across that seaway. I never felt comfortable until I had my feet firmly planted on those oyster covered rocks. Stay away at all costs....and good luck with your studies.

Hey Andy, I'm in my first season too but unlike you I have had to learn in the surf because there is not any flat water close by my house.
There is usually a gutter about 20-60 meters long on any beach during most swells. the usual height of the shoredump is 1-3ft. If it's dumping it is a pain in the butt to launch in for noobs like me but there's usually a softer spot somewhere down the beach to get going from, and once you get used to it the little foam ramps are sick fun.

Don't know where the others here are getting their reports cause mine don't look to bad.

Yeah looks the goods so far. Just gotta be there an find out I guess. I think Narrowneck waves for the onshore and the spit for the offshore. On google there looks to be a road off Doug Jennings Park that goes back south and has nice sandy beaches facing west.
Has anyone surfed the Westerlies here?? Troy? You there? I'll be looking out for the white bindings!
Hey Andy your board looks a lot like my sx 132. What are you riding? Have you a one kite quiver or a range?
Cheers

Hey pattie hahah yer I'm here. Westerly I'm going to try the point on the other side of bums bay, it's the aqua sports area at the spit. Otherwise if you have a boat head to straddy or a sandbank.
Westerlies here are usually 10-40 knots so make sure your in a safe area.
Ill be at shearwater as usual as SW is still doable there, the last few days have been about 100m from the beach of 15knots and then 25knots in the channel.

weather is a funny thing. No telling what is going to happen until, well, it does.
As part of your young mind and education, I would suggest studying weather patterns and past histories for your local areas. Look at what happened weeks ago, how things formed, what eventuated. These will give you a guideline to follow in the future. When the morning comes on any given day, anything can and does usually change. But....the more informed you are, the better your chances of scoring early. Learn to rely on yourself, not continual questions on a forum. You will thank me in years to come when you understand this.
Class: Surfers 101
Chapter: Understanding the weather and how it relates to you.
Goals: To know when and where to go when it's on and be able to predict within reason what the short and long term forecast should or might be
Outcome: ?????
Good luck, plenty of stuff on the net for you to bone up on!

Yer because of the turbulence across the land westerly winds are extremely gusty.
Many good memories racing skiffs in westerlies, out of control one second in the water the next because the wind stopped.

Oh and the point I'm talking about is directly east of KFC/loders creek, accessible from sea world drive and around the end past the spit.
