Just a little background on that photo. Neil Anderson was
landing the kite on the right hand side of the window as the wind was coming almost on shore at the time.
I was to his left, and 5-10m downwind. On a
horizontal plane where 12 is in front and 6 is behind, I was maybe 11 o'clock from his POV (while his kite was at his 3), but the camera zoom makes it looks a lot closer. And you're right Carl, everyone else you see in the photo was upwind of the kite.
I'm usually pretty careful when I'm in the water too. I always leave room to duck under in case anyone arcs their kite towards my head

, but I've only had to do that once (thanks Rohan!) I stand at just over waist depth, otherwise known as minimum shark depth.
