Hi

I heard that the seabreeze does not happen on the abhrolos islands, is this true?

I'm interested to know how far out to sea does the seabreeze event occur in Perth?

Ive wondered many times this too.
I guess it depends on the day really.

i read the same, ie no seabreeze at abrohlos in a BOM article
but not so sure, graphes seem to suggest some influence in th summer
seabreeze is a fairly local phenomenon, have a mate who crayfishes off greenhead

sometimes out off the shelf (?20nm) out of breeze range, guess might depend on amount of boost via southerlies and s/e about that give us the good blows
sadly lacking this summer

It still blows easterly out west at the islands most mornings as it does on the mainland. Only the southerly seabreeze is pumping 2-3 hours out there before it gets to Gero.

from what i have found out the seabreeze will start between 50km at the start of the season when the ocean it still fairly cold and starts to decrease as the water warms up at the end of the season so can be as little as 8km.

So ahbrolos should get a reduction in seabreeze later in the season to probably zero seabreeze say around april.

I'm still interested in this so if anyone else can provide anymore info it would be great.

Been covered in other posts. Short answer is no - against regulations. The Water Police will stop you if they see you and confiscate your gear.

Cheers.

If the seabreeze effect can stop as little as eight kilometres out to sea does that mean you can go 8 k's out and there wont be any wind but as you come in again it picks up

I recon you could be over in 45mins, the water police aren't everywhere, and you'd be unlucky to get someone ringing up about it. A quick pack up and an escape plan would be required. It can definately be done, wind wise.
How far offshore would you have to go until you will actually get into trouble with the fuzz (not technically get in trouble, but when they would bother telling you off)?
Blue kites are often hard to see as they get further away...

I really want to do it one day. Hopefully it can be sorted out legally.

don't freo ports pretty much look straight across that stretch of water and keep it pretty tightly under control? (considering it has a fair bit of merchant traffic?)

I just had another thought. Fly your kite very low, and make sure it is light blue. Would be hard to see a few kms away from a person. Or windsurf across, even harder to spot.
I doubt someone would constantly be watching that stretch of ocean, all day everyday.

Dammit, why would authorities be so worried about a kiter quickly dashing over to rotto. I know they would have to be the ones to come rescue, but if you had a support boat would they really be fussed about it?
Are water police lenient people?

I'm fairly sure a few people on here have dashed across without any problems.
