Guys we will be BANNED from Pelican Point if the following keeps up!

Anyone who was there between 1630HRS and 1730HRS please back me up if you saw the following happen there!

SSE winds GUSTING 22 - 30KNTS approx.

In the 20 mins I was on the setup grass area these things happened.

1. Italian tries to launch kite across cycleway people trying to walk past and one cyclist.

2. Coupla mins later a guy launches into the tree at takeoff.

3. Another Italian does a unhooked maneuver just enough to land on beach at launch area and lets his kite go and lands it in the trees just before roadway, as his kite hits tree a person walking under his lines had no idea he was saved by the tree cause that guys lines would have taken him out, the lines stayed about 10 foot above walkway!
This Kiter was doing ALL his tricks about 20 -30 M from grass launch area and going about 10M from the carpark!! He stuffed up 3 times just before the MAJOR balls up!

4. Regular Kiter from Pelican Point does a HUGE BOOST and lands into a WINDSURFER's sail 3/4 the way up! YOU KNOW WHO U ARE!!

5. Learner was doing his thing between the boats and the playground area, was stuffing up a lot of the time and coming back up wind he was about 10M from the carpark where the wooden walkway is.
Then the worst thing could happen, he took out another kiter in that area between the wooden walkway and launch area! He had the totally black kite 9M. He was saved just in time before his kite nearly ended up in carpark!!

6. Last thing I saw was another Kiter BOOSTING near a windsurfer and he landed min one metre away from him fell off his board then went into the power zone and was coming straight at the launch area and just saved it!

ALL this in 20 mins of watching!!

Geez I'm glad I've had 13 years of kiting cause the way were all going there WON'T be many spots to go to, it's getting to the stage where we will be governed like the JET SKIS and Water skiers! AREA set aside only for us and it will be a small spot or two!!

This was crazy stuff, I've read about these things happening here and there but due to the wind direction most of the ppl were down at this spot and mate it was scarey!!

I hope there weren't any rangers watching or people recording via cameras cause WE WILL LOSE THIS SPOT!!

WAKSA better have someone down there ALL this week as the wind direction and strength is the same all week!!

Regulars at this spot better start policing people or we will be going else where!

The RANGER has been watching us lately from the bird sanctuary and telling people to keep out of the yellow area !!

If you see this stuff, you need to stop it. No good coming on here and preaching to the converted. Kiters on here are generally the ones who know the difference between right and wrong.

/also, now might not be the best time, I suspect altona dog lovers might be combing for ammo.

Jr I actually did go up to 1st guy, 3rd guy and 5th guy as the others stayed out there and I didn't get to the 2nd guy.

Mate I was just trying to warn the REGULARS to start policing the spot one guy will get shot down in flames as it happened to me with the Italians as they ALL congregated around me 5 in total!

If we ALL as a group explain to the idiots then it might get past their inner ear and into their brains!
As I said ALL this week the wind direction and strength will be the same as today and MATE if you have a camera you won't be disappointed on getting some F@#$wits!

Who'd want to be a regular at Pelican point! I've kited the place twice and it's ridiculous, no room, obstacles and hectic with a bunch of people who have no clue.

Last time I was there I decided never again.

This happened today at one of maybe a few spots to kite in PERTH due to the wind direction, so it showed us all what Fwits are out there and mate this is happening at most spots not just there but it was contained there today for ALL to see!
You only have to read the forums!!

We were also lucky that a lot of people went to kitestock, imagine if it was a normal weekend with everyone in town!!


GUESS WHAT it will be the SAME wind direction ALL week so GUYS get down there for some entertainment BECAUSE if we keep up this crap little by little the authorities will clamp down on ALL spots!

I've only got a few years left in me of kiting but you young guns have many more so pull everyones heads in NOW!!

Just saw a photo of the areas allowed for kiting in South Australia!

One tiny spot allowing kiting on metro beaches everywhere BANNED except for one spot WOW!

After 20yrs of windsurfing and now kitesurfing and Pelican Pt, I've resigned myself to the fact that it's not a question of if but when (we will all be banned)

And it will be the locals to blame, not the visitors. I see lots practicing their tricks etc in the smooth water of the no kiting zone.

In the last few weeks CALM have been actively watching the point as there are currently birds nesting there. The greenies have the influence to stop multi-million dollar mines that employ hundreds of people all because some bug is unique to the area. Banning an area from kite/windsurfing is a piece of cake for them, they'll hardly blink an eye and then move onto more important issues.

as per previous advice & suggestions on this forum, WAKSA has provided significant advice to kiters about where to & where not to kite at Pelican Pt.

Unfortunately, as a volunteer organisation we don't have the resources to "have someone down there all week" as you requested. We would encourage strong self regulation at Pelican Pt - discussions with kiters before they make mistakes (e.g. setting up with lines across the bike path) are most likely to have the best results.

We have also advised recently that DEC rangers are concerned about kiting @ Pelican Point - those rangers will have significant input in determining access to that location and the (possible) imposition of bans or restrictions.

Yeah that was 'ME'

It never ceases to amaze when people post crap about half of what they know !!

Poley upwind / kiter downwind - Poley jibes in front of kiter 'Without Looking', kiter would rather not drive his board straight into Poley so in a split second decision, trys to jump out of way - pointing board away from Poley and sail and clips the Poley sail (youve seen how big I was jumping - so now Im sure you can figure out that wasnt a normal jump at a pissweak 3/4 mast height)

Then checks if the Poley is ok - all good from him, we keep kiting together and he now looks behind as most every one else did the whole arvo

Also I was involved in another incident wait did you miss that one
Part 1 Having seen a noob downwind, kite in the water trying to relaunch - smack in the middle of a bunch of kids on mini learner Poley rigs i recomended him to pull his Safety as he was not far from the shore - obviously to wrap up and get out of the kids way and reset upwind But Noob continues to try relaunch in middle of kids....

Part 2 just as I go to land my kite, its not on the ground yet ! The same Noob unfarkenbeleivably goes to land his kite too - over my head, it crashes into my lines - tangles then rolls backward, i jump under his lines quick smart not to get caught if it were to power up

And on behalf of those kids, let him and his friends (one was instructing) have both farken barrels and his and his Fwit instructors excuse was..

My hat down to you for discussing this with them on the spot. Was a nervous discussion and just waited for a fist fight :) But, man, you were right.

Yes, there are italians (which doesn't really matter anyway).
This guys are not interested in helping others with lunching/landing at all ie. in 2 hours none of them helped anyone. But they "own" Peli Pt, like their playground.

Also, I didn't see a guy SaveTheWhales jumping but being one of most skilled there I trust his words. A lady poley did jibe if front of me as well, what to do?

The Brazilian guy who jumped (me going upwind), obviously didn't see me, and in a split sec I've managed to turn my kite just enough to slightly touch his lines, kites collided, my kite almost landed on top of him.
Otherwise he would go through my lines and who knows after...

I really think we urgently need a fluorescent signage for people walking or cycling on footpath!

It's not just us, ie. I've seen people riding a bikes between kites on grass area! Not kids, but like whole families.

Other people just stand on the footpath, enjoining the view, not knowing about danger of feral kites.

Yes, I can PM you, or we can meet there this arvo after work...

If we get BANNED from there it will be like a snowball effect ALL the 30+ Kiters exp, LEARNERS and IDIOTS will have to go somewhere else.

GUESS WHAT they will be on your turf next!!

Melville is starting to get outa control from what I hear and read on here, so at the moment you guys have 50+ kiters there, NOW add 30+ kiters in that who want to learn and others doing tricks right on the beach. Do you think the local residents will be happy I guess NOT!! A lot of the PELICAN POINT guys like the flat water so off to MELVILLE we go!!

GUESS WHAT? Coupla years down the track MELVILLE will be BANNED due to the goings on from the HUGE numbers of LEARNERS and TRICK HAPPY POSERS close to roadway/beach, my guess there probably be 150+ kiters there in a few years time due to PELI BAN and new comers! By now ALL the spots used for SW winds on the river have been BANNED, YOUR NEXT SURF LOVERS the river gods will be with you and you have LEARNERS, POSERS and EUROS to contend with! SH#T where are we ALL going to fit!

SO NEXT TIME YOU BAG PELICAN POINT REMEMBER THIS POST IN 5 YEARS, it's not a matter if we get BANNED, it's when!!

I know who he is. He's just having balls of fun so leave him alone. If I could boost as high as he can I'd be pretty happy too!

Me, me and more me. It all depends of where you/he is boosting, that is the point.

i never tried to make a point or attack the fact he can boost high . I'll admit i can't boost anywhere near how high he goes but I simply asked if he was the one who woops and yahoo's just before every boost . But seeing as you have sand in your vag i do think it's a case of LOOK AT ME LOOK AT ME . I notice he doesn't woop and yahoo when he is out the back where no-one in the carpark can see or hear or care about him .

If you can get something organised - count me in, but can only do maybe a few days a fortnight when back from mining...

My mate Nelly is the Balinese screaming man who has more fun than all australia put together,
just dont give him a can of Red Bull whatever you do, has the same effect as Coke (cola)

Nelly is ok, a bit loud but that's more fun:)

I'm much more concerned about a bystanders, walkers, riding in a reserve, even parked cars, etc.
Having some signage just might help. Duno. Any other ideas? Web cam on top of the UWA building?
