Hi Peeps,

It looks like we have secured the second board needed to start our Course match racing series at Pinnaroo Point.

How it works: Every Wednesday afternoon we will put out some buoys to create a triangular course and participants are to race a single lap around the course starting and ending at the beach. It should be pretty easy to determine the winner and an honesty system will be in force (as well as obvious). The course will have a long upwind leg, then broad reach down and cross wind to the rounding mark before a close reach back to the finish. A simple triangle, easy to set, easy to watch, challenging enough with all points covered.

Score system: A simple knockout system will be the format so timing isn't required. You win, you advance to the next round, you lose you, either sit it out and wait for the winner of that round to be announced, then jump in for the next series. If we get enough entrants, we'll carry over the results to the following week. I suspect we'll get through each round pretty easy. FUN!

I will keep a score card for each series so we can announce a winner at the end of the year. This is purely social racing but I'm sure there will be a high degree of competitiveness. Protests may be lodged at the price of a case of beer to be shared with everyone at the hearing and must be by the end of the days racing.

Equipment: The idea is to keep it simple, fair and most of all, fun. AKS will supply the two boards, both North Race LTD boards. The kite is up to you, no rules there. The boards make the most difference initially so that keeps it fairer as few people own a course racing board and few have experience on them so most will be starting with the same handicap. If you have your own competitive course board, you are welcome to enter it and ride it. And trust me, unless you have one, you will be squarely beaten EVERY race.

What we need now is numbers and names. If you are keen to race, put your name down below so we can get an idea of what time of day to start racing and how the draw should be set up.

We are trying to introduce a bit of spice into your kiting, something different to look forward to each week or fortnight if we don't get the numbers.

Sounds like great fun Dazz, shame it's so far away. Might try round up some other Safety Bay crew and make the journey up every now and then through the season. Look forward to hearing some more.

Out of Interest, is there a difference in technique opposed to riding a TT

We were trying to get a couple races off begining of October in Sydney - but the weather didn't agree with us. Try to get another one going at some point.....

I'd be up for a "national" race event, need to get local racing scenes going first though.

This is precisely what this is about. Before we can have a national race scene, we need a local race scene.

If anyone has been to Maui and gone down to Kanaha Beach Park on a Friday afternoon, you'll see how successful slalom or course racing can be. They get many dozens of people turn out and they race all arvie, it's absolutely huge.

I'd like to see it become fun first and then get competitive. It's so early in it's development and it has more scope for becoming international and olympic than all other aspects of kiting.

But we need the first race. C'mon, how about a little support? What have you got to lose? , only one entrant??? Should I not bother with the second board I could easily put that money into something more profitable

more than likely wont get there till just after 5:30 but that would still be okay to make it for the first round right?

is there an estimated starting date in mind? I'm excited

Was heaps of fun.

Would be good if each area got a couple of people together we could have roaming races.

Looks like we have enough to get it off the ground. I'll grab the second board today and we can schedule the first official day for next Wednesday the 11th November starting at around 5pm or as soon as we get enough racers keen to begin.

It should be a hoot! Good on ya and we'll keep everyone posted as to how we get on.

So because it was such a hard I did some googling. It would appear the race boards are directional and you would need to gybe. That being the case it will make it interesting in the early days for those that don't currently ride surfboards. Or I suppose they could carve round the marks and ride toe side, but I don't think that would be to comfortable in this style of riding.

The Monaro looks sick as.

I'm so in, one for the girls. Should be interesting to use the different style of board.

if the boards charge upwind and hold a good edge does that make them good for big boosts?
