Hi all

I just wanted to see if anyone knows of/has any use for old busted kites, i currently have a few old 12m inflatos lying around that are just taking up space, they are not in a condition i would be comfortable selling (1: they are not safe to fly, 2: i would be ripping people off if i asked money for the). I am a bit of a hoarder of stuff hahahahah and kind of don't want to just throw them out, surely someone has a use for old kites, or has a suggestion for what i could use them for???

i will happily give them to people if they have a use for them

cheers

You could trade them in for $500 - $660 on a new BWS or Best Kite.

if they are flyable, donate them to PNG riders. Kitesurfing is taught in the coastal villages as a means to keep kids off the streets (out of crime) and in school.

none of these kids could ever afford a kite (even a bomb second hand one) so we rely on donations.

so far in the villages where we operate its been quite successful. but we could always do with more gear. we started off with ancient C kites so anything newer is greatly appreciated.

Cut them up and sew up a light weight kite bag with draw string top. Great to reduce weight for air travel.

always worth mentioning the year and models of these kites. There are plenty of people who just need a spare line, chicken loop, bridle line or bladder etc and would pay a small amount to obtain it.

bugger - i dont have any melb drop off locations. can do in sydney Brisbane townsville and cairns. I'll have a chat with the other kiters here see if they know people in melb who can act as a middle man and help out.

Hey guys,

I'm collecting all old busted kites so hit me up if you want me to recycle them for you. I don't mind what condition they're in because I'm going to be stripping them for the fabric and components only so you need not concern yourself that someone might die on your old tether.

I have a project that I'm currently researching and need as much kite fabric as I can get my paws on - For various prototypes.

Call me on 0467808371

Regards,
Rory

P.S Please keep your spiders! I came across the largest Huntsman jump out of a bag that I collected recently..... I nearly died!

@ aseela: The kites i have are an old 08 12m CAB Contra (kite and bar only) and a 2010 (i think) 12m Liquid force envy (complete)

@Jayp & NetRaVer: The CAB has a busted canopy so NeT this is probably best for you (90% of material is fine) The Liquid force is pretty beaten up but still works so JAY would be happy to donate, i live in canberra however :( not close to any of your drop off points

Hi guys, Best are devising a way to recycle the traded kites and turn them into yarn. The yarn would then be used for the production of material for clothing.

They need kites to develop this process and Is why they have introduced the trade deal. This is why the condition of the kite is of little worry to them.

The PNG program is great also, but I would want to make sure the gear is suitable for beginners to use. Failures due to old gear could really put these kids in danger. I donated one of our kites to the Hula kids in PNG when we visited a couple of years ago, but it was in good condition. That's important for the progression of the sport over there IMO.

The trailer is about to go on the market and when sold i will be making a rack to go on my 6x4 for the windsurf kit and making a kite cover for the trailer well where deck chairs, beach shelter and other small sundries are storred.

I'd be embarrassed sitting under that at the beach, you would have to move it every 15 mins as the shade angle changes. Some people are just not good inventors
