Probably not such a great idea to be just upwind of the windsurfers in the first place as it leads to trouble when, oh I don't know, say you get hit by a gust and have to drop your kite right in the middle of their highway run.

But that was an epic boost, nice work to bring it down in a (semi) controlled manner

Yesterday 9Bft in Scheveningen Holland. Only two men out on the water. Ruben Lenten and Eddy Lansink. Not bad on an "aerodynamically inferior kite".

Yea agree with you on the "Not Wake style" comment.....

Its more of a Mistake if you ask me... "Kook style" not been able to choose the right kite size for the conditions and mistakenly going out when there is thunder & lightning!

Now lets all get our seat harnesses on and wear our budgie smugglers

Bad weather, poleys downwind, Yes..... kite too big??? (I dont think so). It still takes great technique to go that big AND land it. It is possibly the biggest jump recorded so far that was done on purpose.
Who's gonna post that other eddy....come on...

And before anyone posts it (again!) Eric's lofting was not intentional...

I don't think so??? what are you retarded? if you get lofted your kite is to big.

I don't know about and body else but a loft to me is when i unintentionally get picked off the water or ground and get tossed around in the air example at 1.14 wiggling around like a dead fish.

"I don't think so??? what are you retarded? if you get lofted your kite is to big."

No not retarded mate. Loftings occur mainly when you are about to jump and you time it right (fluke it) with a gust or updraft when in frontal conditions, the more gusty the conditions the more likely this will occur as well as the wind dying and dropping you like a stone in the middle of a jump. Not really looking at jump 2 and 4 which are the same coose, he didnt get lofted he miss-timed the second jump, popped too early and went more sideways rather than up probably due to the above.
look at jump 1 or 4 in slow-mo. He's high and makes a relatively clean landing... that takes good timing and a lot of luck in those conditions.EDIT: on a kite thats too big...

EDIT: from the horses mouth...
Hi,

The wind was really super strong that day, I was totally overpowered with my 8m Psycho4.
After the huge jump, I was going streight into a steep wave with windsurfers coming from everywhere, so I decided to make a ,,rescue jump" steering my kite from 9.30 to 12. After landing my chicken loop got out as I forgot to put in my chickendick. (pretty stupid for this conditions, but anyway)

After the crash about 5 huge waves got over my kite, but nothing got damaged. I recovered and went out for another short session untill dark.

If you read his Eddy's quote, it says how his CL unhooked accidently because he left out his donkey dick. He would have had his leash attatched to his 5th line which when activated does exactly as you saw in the video, depowers 100%. It is really a very safe system, probably safer than almost all other kite flagging systems, especially in the +35 knot conditions he was riding in.

Dont quite know if he landed it. I hate kiting in weather like that, I suppose whn you live in wales you dont have much choice. BTW Perth summer is basically the same, dont bother coming here.

Why is there always some people to criticize, talk safety etc etc instead of enjoying?? We all know that in our sport things can sometimes get slightly out of control, but we all take SOME risks and sometimes get more or less painfull lessons... To me, getting out on that day was not as crazy as getting towed-in into Jaws or Teahupoo on a big day... but not many people criticize these few crazy surfers as much!

Awesome images, loved it :)
