Went kiting on Saturday night at Brighton (QLD). I was awesome. The wind was the most constant I have EVER kited in. I will certainly do it again when the conditions are right. Has anybody out there done the same?

ive kited until its too dark to see the reef/lines but there is so much light just coming from the street lights its not really too dark to kite.

i met some kiters in melb who kite the bay at nite but they use glow sticks match different colours e,g left hand with left of lead edge right with right n a different colour for middle of leading edge..

i reckon id be crazy to do.. the bay in melb prob a bit safer than the ocean off WA..

Firstly, i'm glad YOU were so awesome.
but, I seem to remember one of my favourite threads on this topic involved some lengthy discussion and piss taking on the correct legal lighting for night kiters. Something about a helmet with red and green lights that would have to change sides when you were riding blind.
Anyway i'd agree that the wind is best at night and your theory of thermals i like too.

Not here in QLD you dont need lights

Used to take my 18foot skiff out for evening races against yachts (and thrash them), didn't legally need the lights. I did fit em pretty quickly few to many close shaves. The wind in the early evening up here is generally better early evening than during the day. Stronger, consistant and onshore the majority of the time

I've been Night Kiting at Woodies before, just because the wind was there, I was up and it started getting dark but the full (or damn close too it) moon came out with no clouds. It was an awesome experience.

The one thing that did get me off the water eventually (after about an hour) was the little voice in my head that said "ok, now you do remember that sharks are most active near dusk". That was enough to convince me I'd had enough fun after being on the water for about 5 hours.
