Just getting my waterhousing all dialed in for the season so my buddy James went for a quick swim in some freezing water and got some pretty sick shots. Decided to throw into a strapless montage and this is what came out.

You can watch it here:

Nice! Really good angles.
What camera and housing were you using and what did you upload as? Came up pretty well. Looks cold, you had booties on?! haha.

p.s.
Now you just gotta learn to pop your fakie backside flips, and unhook. Then you've got it dialed.

Apparently,
Some strapless riders will use straps sometimes....
if the waves are big-ish,,,
if the wind is strong-ish,,,
if they want to jump a bunch,,,
if they want to do fully powered off-the-lips,,,
if they want to do monster-airs,,,
if they want to ride harder,,,
if they want to ride faster,,,
if they want to do power-moves,,,
if they want to ride upwind in chop faster and easier,,,
and if they don't want to fall as much.

Carry-on.

If this is Patrick that was up Dongara for Kitestock, I think he has exceptional talent, was not comparable to other wave kiters I've seen so far and probably would be totally restricted with straps
He rides the surf board like a skate board with similar style, so when would you put straps on a skateboard?

Same time you would put straps on a surfboard or straps on a wakeboard... When you want people to know you are gay.

.......that said, 75% of wave kiters would benefit from using straps, instead of stepping over their limits

Yea there isn't waveriding per se in that video....but see Patrick's riding in that Year In Life vid - he's on a surf board the whole time...doing some smoothness...

And check his strapless air in the first part....I reckon that board could've knocked him cold if he ran into it - maybe that's a reason for straps. Not!

Yep Ray that was Patrick I believe, he absolutely blew me away with his strapless antics up there. The first time I came across Pat (aframesurfer)I followed him in towards the shore and thought WTF is this kook doing, turns out it was about the smoothest strapless, backroll, kiteloop transition (from memory) I've ever seen.

For the record Loco, Steve threw that one in because it had more footage of Patrick. It is mainly flatwater freestyle type kite surfing (on a directional) in that clip but but believe me he knows how to kitesurf as anyone that has seen him in the waves knows.

This one still doesn't give his waveriding credit but you get the idea.

Patrick stayed with me for some of the time when he was in Australia and hanging out in Sydney, I got to know him quite well. Totally respect him as a person and well his kitesurfing on any board is incredible, but yeah his unstrapped surf style is unique and inspiring, even I learned some stuff from watching him and talking to him.
Anyway Gnomes should show more respect to stumpy hobbits.

Will someone please put up some more strapless rippage videos. I'm in need of some...

In the meantime, here's a pretty cool vid about Jimmy Taylor breaking his back in the surf pound, near Cape Town. Nicely shot on GoPro HD, with slo mo film and commentary. Watch the lip crush him (not the wave he broke his back on). It is a bit painful to watch, but interesting. You don't often see the whole thing so well...
