A couple of questions that we hope you mad bunch can help out with

1. Where are the good local spots on the SSC to kite that are not river mouth Noosa or Cotton Tree ?

2. Does anyone kite Currimundi Lake or off the beach there?

3. Has the Council banned kiting in any spots from Bribie up to Rainbow Beach?

Cheers

This is Caloundra to Pt Cartwright.

Red zones are prohibited areas. You will upset the authorities if you are seen kiting in red zones and risk possible bans to our sport.

Have fun, plan your rides and stay out of the flags.

Noosa Rivermouth, Lake Weyba, Lake Cootharaba, Cottontree, Golden beach and Caloundra Rivermouth or anywhere along Sunshine Beach.

Best flatwater is Double Island point or behind Noosa rivermouth (you can use a boat or kayak) and you will find lots of different sandbanks that you can launch/land, and you can kite in every wind direction, and its clear, shallow, perfect flatwater. A great training spot.
Welcome to the Sunshine Coast.

Glad I asked - be a sorry sod if I launched in any of those spots deemed "red". Will more likely head north as it's closer and not likely to pin me under any waves til I am ready at least.

Thanks very much for the information.

Lake Cootharaba - where would you launch from there? the day I took a drive there it looked like the tree line was close to the water line with say a sniff of "beach".

Cheers

Hi 08KITERZ,

1. Where are the good local spots on the SSC to kite that are not river mouth Noosa or Cotton Tree ?
The clalondra River mouth is a wicked spot with a south easter and a out going tide and has a few areas that suit intermediate riders (nice flat shallow water with less current) . Golden Beach at Caloundra can be really good on a south easter with a in coming tide as well and is perfect for all levels of riders.Other than those spots and the already mentiond, the best places are just any where off the endless beaches from Bribe to Double Island,as Dave said just stay clear of the flags.

2. Does anyone kite Currimundi Lake or off the beach there?
Yes lots of people kite off the beach at Currimundi and its a great spot in both a south and north easter but you are not allowed in the lake or in the flaged area.

3. Has the Council banned kiting in any spots from Bribie up to Rainbow Beach?
Appart from the red zones that dave pointed out you can kite pretty much anywhere up to Rainbow Beach as long as you stay out of the flaged areas and dont go too far up the river's wich you wouldnt want to anyway.

If you need any tips on the best places to kite on any given day give me a call at the shop for a weather and location up date.

Enjoy the SunnyCoast

Regards

Luke

Drop into Adventure Sports at Noosa and they'll point you in the right direction and tell you when and where the best spots are. The river mouths at Noosa and Maroochydore are very popular spots but you got to know when to go out cos it is tide and wind direction dependent. Have fun!

Thanks Grogamanda for your kind words,

Great to here that you and your son had a good day up at the lake and that the harness fitted him well.

Its really nice to see parents getting their kids into kitting.
Its a great sport for young ones to get involved in.They learn so much more than just boardriding in this sport.

Hope you enjoy the rest of you stay on the coast.

It looks like more Northerlys for the weekend!

Regards

Luke
