yeah i miss the boardies and the long summer days where you kite all day long and then you get home and your legs feel like jelly, your dehydrated and you no longer can keep you eyes open from tiredness even at the dinner table.

i miss the 20 knot sea breezes and the flat water days, *sigh*

Summer seemed fine in Perth and Melbourne this year. Try living in London, then you know what a crap summer is. Actually, its been pretty good this week...

But, no such thing as the Fremantle Doctor or the Melbourne afternoon seabreeze. What's the name for the Melbourne seabreeze anyway? I think it should have a name, possibly something quite stylish like "La Tramontana" or "Le Mistral" in Europe. There is the "cool change" but that doesn't really sum it up, and thats only the breeze you get when it goes from 40 degrees to 30 degrees in an hour.

Sounds like a topic worthy of its own input
You could call it the "Hens Tooth"
Im sure all the clever-dicks out there can pay-out on this opening with some entertaining name claim come-backs.

What are you all complaining about anyhow. Winter is a great kite season.
Used to be that only those heavily weighed down by massive testicles would dare to venture out in the buffeting and risks that winter kiting produced.
Nowdays with the gust busting ability of the huge depower kites riding in winter is not only managable and safe but really user friendly as well. Im having an awesome winter season on my REVS (well ie on my 9M REV - the 13 hasnt had a run for quite a while).
Still pays to watch the horizon but time-on-water, between the worst of the really nasty squalls, makes for an intensely magical blast of a good-time.
But yeah the chill factor really does suk - getting out is not very inviting some days.

Don't know what every one is complaining about, I just got back from another session there's heaps of wind with the added bonus of heaps of swell.
I've got tomorrow off and the forcast is for 30 knots and 3.5 mtr swell.
I must admit though it would be good to get some sun and get back into the boardies, wish I was one of the lucky ones that was heading off to Bali, Cocos etc.
Oh well I will have to plan an escape next year.

Stop winging. Come and talk to me when you've done 2+ years in Manchester - no summer, no sun, no beach, no kiting - then you can winge about no summer.

The end is in sight. October 26 here we come.

Lost in London - It has been pretty damn good this week.

'ken sovern fairies.

I did head south, spent a week in Cornwall and it didn't blow the whole time, had sessions booked and everything. Gutted.

I'm over it, 3 months and I'll be back in Paradise Perth. Hope I can afford it, I hear it's changed a bit in the last 2+ years.

It'll be interesting.

Well it's nearly the last month of winter. Then after 2 months of spring its november, which i nearly summer. So close. So so close. If only climate change made the southern hemisphere point the sun all year round. If only.
Melbourne seabreeze could be called the seapuff, or the seawheeze. COME ON FREO DOCTOR!!!!

isnt it the freo docker?? not doctor??
someone told me once that it got its name back in the convict days when all the ships wanting to sail into perth had to wait at freo for the seabreeze to kick in so they could sail up the swan and doc in perth hence the name the docker?
if it is the doctor where did that name come from and what is up with the footy team being called the freo dockers?

Nope definitely Doctor... this rather gruesome explanation from wikipedia...

"However, it is almost certain that the term Fremantle Doctor has its origins in Fremantle's dark past. At Catherine Point, a short distance south of Fremantle, crematoriums were established during the colony's early days to dispose of the corpses of those who had fallen to the illnesses which preyed upon the population in the city's early days. It is reported that the Doctor was named in honour of the wind which blew the stench of burning human flesh inland, as this was otherwise noticeable in both Fremantle and her environs."
