Ideas on a suitable wave riding surfboard with a decent low end.

Tried the nugget, great low end but loses performance in the waves. A little too skatey for me. But still an awesome alternative.

Ideas? Something than can be used in 11 to 15 knots on a lithuim 14m kite or 14 to 18 on the 10m?

I weigh 75kg

Cheers

Notice I said lightish, not light wind. Got a board for that. Also have a mutant for medium winds and a shinn monk for cranking powered days.

I have been surfing a 5,8 x 20 x 2/12 Colin Earle in 1-3 ft Perth ****, best board I have ever owned for that size. Had a kite on it in 14-15kn on my 7m and was holding ground allot of guys on 10 s were struggling. It pops airs and turns with performance not like a boatish board. Really big surprise. My new light wind go too. Just pegged 2 new kites too!

... I believe in synergy between equipment. When they design a kite, the team riders are usually riding same brand of board, which you'd think each bit of equipment is ment to work togeather, riding exactly as the designer intended.

So having said that, how about you give the Airush Cypher surfboard a try. I'm riding the Airush Cypher 5'10" and loving it, so as you see I don't always follow my own advise, but in my humble opinion would go well with your VX and similar performing Fone.

The 5'10" is a big looking board but similar to the sector, doesn't ride like a big board. With the 3 or 4 fin options you can tailor the feel of the board and being a surfboard, should ride nicely in waves. 3 fins for wider turns, or 4 for snappy. I can't say difinitively how good in waves as we haven't had anything decent yet, but it should give you what you want.

Maybe try the 5'8" seeing as your lighter but I can recommend the 5'10" is good for my heavy frame!

Cheers,

Robbie

Ta robbie, yeh the cypher is most definetley on the list. In-fact I keep losing bloody weight so fast (down to 74kg, now!, was 85kg only 3 months ago) - I'm even thinking about selling my precious Sector V3!

Yeh still got the VX 6m Robbie, but old man eppo has stepped off the crazy ass mother Farqing boosting machine of the 10m VX (Christ that kite is so damn fast) and have got the smooth but reliable Lithuim 10m. I was starting to scare myself and the body was not pulling up real well! LOL... as a side note, jesus that Lithuim is an under-rated kite. When you read the reviews etc you think Oh its beginner, intermediate kite for numpties. They are always pushing the high performance VX and Razor, but the lithuim is a bloody nice kite, with great boost and glide and let's ya loop with so much confidence. Lovin slowing down a little and having time to do my gay board offs etc and it seems really functional in the waves. Not reo like, but it does the job for me.

So call me the smooth marlboro king...ha ha and yeh 5'8 for me the shorter the better. I still like to chuck in a bit of old school even on the SB, so shorter the better.

So Robbie what's the deal with the cypher anyhow, is it designed to plane early. Be interesting to read what impact that has on its performance in the waves...surely there is something lost. With one you take from the other.

Hey Eppo, you buy a lot of new gear!

I was in the same position as you as I have a Sector for seriously light wind but I wanted to get on a surfboard as early as possible, like ~12kn but I didnt want something that felt big.

Marty from Delta sent me up a new board he has designed (Metro: 5'10”x18.5”x2 1/8”) and I have had the demo board out strapless in ~12/13kn on shore and I could get along really well on my 10m Reo and on another day I took it out strapped in ~20kn with a 6m Reo and it was great but I do prefer my smaller Amp in better winds.

The board is in Perth for a while if anyone wants to demo it.

Yeh slack ya right, I'm nearly done, the wifes patience is now at an end! After 13 seasons I have been hell bent on finding the right kite and gear and I know I'm almost there. Was sick of going, well its okay but...

Well any chance you coming down my way? I'll give it a crack.

Hence I may be forced to sell the V3 if I decide to change which would cause me most distress as it is such an awesome board. But with one handeth, the other taketh or some sh1t like that someone tripping on biblical acid made up.

I can ride the Metro in 10kn on flat water with a 13m VXR and I have a mate with the 14m LW Lithium and that kite has a seriously better low end. You're the same weight as me so you will get going in 10kn but not having flown the 14mLW I don't know how much fun you'll be having.

I have a couple of mates that go down your way a lot so someone will drop it off to you next week.

Eppo,

Surfboards are such personal things, some surfboards go sweet in certain waves and conditions and crap out in others. The best bet is to try as many normal surfboards you can in the average conditions you ride, forget if they are strapped or not.If you want to go strapped a custom will be the only way to go without compromises. Find the sweet board and use it as the prototype.
Colin Earle has been around for at least 20 years and he makes boards for perth surfers. Dave Smith at Katana can make you something that will last, he has been shaping when he was at schol with me, he has made boats, windsurfers, Mals, and will do something in epoxy. 2 good options.

Think reverse V, mabe channels to give a smoother and bitier ride..... Square tails dont work in kitesurfing

Epps, give the shinn duke a run, I won't go into all the fine print , give it a run in the usually sloppy , high wind driven wa conditions, you know how good the monk is as a tt , enough said

Good to hear Puetz I have a twin tip and a mutant but they've only gathered dust since I got on a surfboard! I grew up surfing though, so couldn't get on a board quick enough - and who says you can't booost on them!?

No dear sir I am not (said with a sheepish air of grace). No seriously it is just another dimension to the light wind end of my setup. Why waste big winds and nukin swell on a surfboard when you can hook around on a cardboard mutant. What a waste, what a waste indeed. and are you keeping a cut and pasted file on what I have said or something!! No not turning to the dark side, did that for a very bleak and miserable year. Lol.

This is the years i rode:

www.airush.com/2011/products/choptop/
its a a great board and with FCS you change fins to suit conditions.

www.northkites.com/products/boards/surf/whip/
and i currently have this board, and its great in flat water and anything upto head high.

I haven't ridden the CYPHER but in my experience square tail boards don't surf as well backhand as a rounder tail profile.

get a demo, i know both boards are readily available in WA.
