Here's a few images from the heli of the 2010 Red Bull Lighthouse to Leighton and quite a few more here www.helifotos.com.au/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=16&Itemid=2 Sorry about the delay but we thought they were going to be shown on another site.

WAKSA were looking for photos for their revamped website; a couple of these would do.

A link to the race video on the new site would be good........sure to get a kiters blood flowing.

What you dont think the guys out in front were racing????

It was an inaugural event & would of been a buzz to be in. I was pissed i missed out like a lot of other crew but that's been thrashed to death already.

Reckon the vid is well worth a watch

forgive me, did'nt the guy out front cruize to victory.
look, my point is its supposed to be a race not a sunday jolly-up, perhaps if that is what the powers that be want they should make it a charity event like the city to surf

I was lucky enough to get a place, the vibe was very relaxed and I didn't consider it to be a race until the last flag went up and saw to bulk of kites cross the line.
Truth fully, us locals didn't stand a big chance, no one had a clew about what gear to use, it was a learning experience and trial event.
The next event could be more inclusive and a few guys (me, if I get a placing again) would be busy in their sheds working on a board similar to frenchys to give him a better run this time around, although he did say that he will have an even better board for the next race. So theres a challenge in itself for local board builders.

Yes a very good idea to gain alternative sponsorship, raise the profile bar, higher than any Naish bar throw could ever go

The top finishers would still relish their achievments regardless of what its called....

Maybe have different age brackets so people could still be competing whether first or 50th - share the love

Spreader it wasn't a tight race at the front i think Alex won it by 2k but the leaders were stonking along. From memory the winning time was 23 minutes something if you call doing 25 to 30 knots a cruize then thats your call.

I know waksa learnt alot from running L2L 1 and i am sure it will be better this year.
I have heard a lot of ideas floated about how to improve it. Personally i think its great we are putting on a open water kiting race/cruise that has the potential to become a world class event.

Sorry to hijack topic but I've always been keen on organizing a downwinder for charity on the east coast. I don't have lots of cash but really like the idea of raising money for my favorite charities and like it or not people think kiting is 'cool' and I reckon we'd get heaps of donations and local media coverage if it was kind of epic, like 100kms. My favorite charities are Breast Cancer (McGrath Foundation, for their work providing breast cancer nurses for post treatment support) and the Mens Shed movement.

Mike Walker coined the name 'Kitesurfers for Boobs' but we might work on that! Ayone else keen to be a part of it? Maybe this summer coming.
