Just had a surf session with Fone rider Beaver who unfortuneately smashed his shin on his board.
We checked him out on the the beach and it was pretty bad about 10 cm long and cut through to the bone
yeouch!

Lucky he was wearing a leg rope as I took it off his board and then put the ankle strap directly on the gash and did the velcro up

This allowed us to walk him up the beach to the road where he got taken to emergency medical centre

Dr Roganjoshi ( Who just arrived from Pakistan and hadnt done any stitches since medical school) did a sterling job and 11 stitches later he was all good

The legrope was a great help and stopped the bleeding till he got stitched

So for all you non - legrope wearers - they do come in handy

lol chances are the board wouldnt be anywhere near his shin if he was strapless :P Good to hear it came in handy for something tho

All thought I do think the use of the leash collar was a good, easy and convenient way to help stem the flow of blood in this instance. I do feel that there would have been many other thing that could have been used to do the same job, a Towel, a tee shirt, or the arm of a wet suit.

I personal feel that this is very irresponsible for the longest run and best selling magazine to be using this one example where a leash possibly help to save some one to justify the editors use of a leash. When in ten years of kite-boarding I can mention literally hundreds of examples of leashes coursing serious injury.

If a pro or experienced Kiter chooses to use a leash that is there business and I feel that sooner or later they will pay in blood for there decision

KBM advising the forum members to wear a stupid legrope ...
so we can use it as a tourniquet, to quell the blood flow,
from the butchering caused by a fully tensioned-up leash flinging a meat-cleaver kiteboard.

How did he keep his hair still styling after all that?

Should not be wearing a leggy I reckon. He could have probably used his safety leash (from the bar n lines) to the same effect.

Noobs: This example should not be a thumbs up for wearing legropes by any stretch of the imagination.

I am horrified of the thought of using one as well but it is possible to come down on your board without the assistance of a leash. i saw a guy come down with his shin on a twin tip one day and it made a nice job of his leg. Just one of those things i guess.

11 stitches on the shin....! how long would it take you to bleed to death without the assistance of the miracle leggie?

Are you guys for real? Serious to all the crew that is blowing up about wearing leg ropes, wake up to yourself....! With all the new kite shapes and design you should be able to pull yourself up straight away. What do you do when you ride a reef break or a point break where, if you loose your board you’re not getting it back!!!

The real story to this saga is that I did a reo in 3 to 4 foot surf, as I come off the bottom and hit the lip the board following me fell away from my feet by about 10cm. As the board landed at the bottom of the wave without my feet on it, I committed to landing on the board and pulling the reo but landed on the rail with my shin busting the rail of my board and leaving me with a nice cut across my lower shin.

All in all once I got my **** together I kited back to the beach. Looking at my leg seeing the bone was not so good! Once on the beach the cool as KBmag crew grabbed my leg rope and popped it around my leg and stopped the bleeding and pulling the skin together and closing up the gash.

Once again Thanks to the KBmag crew for giving me a helping hand and getting me to the medical centre in due time and not bleeding to death! Top work guys and great idea to use the great leg rope!!!!!!! SUCK IT UP! See ya out there in 10days!

Moral of the story? wear a leg rope if you're confident- when conditions suit (reef, point break). Kite with buddies that can come to your assistance when this kind of thing happens- as once in a while it does happen.
If you are learning, still wouldn't use a bungie board leash because there are too many ways it can hurt you.

is this just a plug for a new 3d edition of kbm and does it come complete with the glasses? if not 3d will this picture be used in the magazine, o the the irony considering the other magazine thread.....
