hey Canberra riders time to get the clubhouse/bar built .your gonna have enough water for glassy flatwater riding for a couple of years at least.
Also One of the guys from here is moving to Coober Pedy and wants to get the Lake Eyre club rolling .

Any takers?

I spent a fair amount of time around Coober Pedy working, i think it would be a dodgy place to kite. the wind changes direction all of the time, its not uncommon to see a dozen whirly winds coming your way. The wind can be hard to see coming, some of the damaging winds i saw up there were powerful enough to knock over buildings. If you did get a breeze worth kiteing it would be gusty as hell.

There is one activity up there that everyone does, drinking beer. Tell your mate to get some practice he will spend a lot more time doing that than kiteing

I'm in Central western Vic.
When i got here at summer there was nowhere to kite. The it rained and they filled up two little lakes for ski boats
Today i passed 3 great flatwater spots just on the way to work and there are confirmed sightings of pretty much all lakes filled up.
Water is Gooooood!!
Most of the usual lakes have trees all around them (not good news for a cabrinha rider) But these new ones are clear and beautiful. waist deep, 6-700m across
No wind forcast for a week

I could pioneer a kite club here if i can recruit some interest.

Any one wanna come up for the great lake bulloke down winder?

Is lake George full of water?

Last time i went was with a buggy and mountain board. It was great!

If there is water in it i hope it is deep enough to cover the barbed wire fences.

Sweet! I always wanted to kite lake george.

In the summer it gets the NE sea breeze. It just comes in very lake. 4 or 5 pm.

ROAD TRIP!

Is there a weather ob station close to Lake George. I never thought I'd ever consider taking my kites when I go to Canberra.

yeah i used to know some hang glider pilots that would fly along the ridge line on the arvo seabreeze .i think that is why the wind turbines are there too .I buggied there a couple of years ago when it was bone dry .it is surprising how much wind there is on the lakebed even on a light day

It takes the NE sea breeze 2 hours to get to Canberra from the coast and the best weather station to look at on the coast is Bellambi point.

In the early days before access to this weather station someone would call the life guard at Thirroul and find out what time the NE came in. From that call you knew what time you had to be at Yarralumla bay.

Lake George would be an awesome place to kite, but growing up I was always told it was a dangerous place and the army cadets that drowned there in a yachting accident kinda confirmed that for me as kid. Next time in the area with me gear though and shes got water I'm definitely going to have a crack.

Lake George - another perspective.

I stopped at the Look out on the Canberra end of the Lake today and took a couple of crappy shots with my phone - sorry about the quality !

It seems the water is still a long way from the car park and the only way to get to it is via Bungendore about 6.5k's out along Torago Rd. Never tried it, don't know if there is a gate or not but it looks like a dirt road on the left. Also, don't know if it is private property or not?

I'll give it a go in the next few weeks and report back!
