Did any other QLD kiter read the remarks in the Sunday Mail (p, 36) made by some retarded Associate Prof (McPhee)?
He said in relation to shark attacks - "kite surfers were especially at risk because their actions mimicked the behaviour of seabirds which were important prey for tiger sharks".
How does this idiot look at himself in the mirror in the morning, adding to the stupid shark hysteria we have had on east coast lately?

A good way to scare off a shark is to fly your kite shadow on top of it.
They hate it and take off very quickly.

Mimicking sea birds? How does eating chips attract sharks?

Id take the remarks with a grain of salt, when i was at uni a few of my professors were angry because their names were being used by newspapers without consent to justify a position that they were actually against. Journalism has been going downhill for a long time now especially in publications like the Sunday mail, its a shame really.

^^^^^ Classic! ^^^^^^^ . You should respond to the Sunday mail letters page with that!

We have a sh!tl@ad of 'experts' around us. One report on marine sanctuaries was compiled by a guy that spent less than 10 hours under water. It over ruled generations of local knowledge of professional and amatuer fisherman, divers, indigenous locals, and common sense. Unfortunately political deals, and hunger for publicity and grants, drives outcomes of these reports to tick the boxes. I think every time these guys comment, there should be a disclosure about their employment, grants and political persuasions. You can draw conclusions out of anything; and when you quote percentages, it suddenly sounds scientific. Considering the amount of kiters that have been attacked by tiger sharks, (hovering around 0%) he's going to have hard time proving the point. I would say back to him Assoc professors are more likely to suffer sexual disfunction and depression, than kiters getting attacked by tiger sharks. And I agree the modern press prints so much alarmist out of context crap, that it's not worth reading or responding.

I heard on the news (always accurate) 65 or there abouts drowned in the surf/ocean in the last 12 months so there should be warnings along the coast. I think this statistic is a little higher than shark fatalities.
