This is for the nob (Black LF and TT) who kited past me upwind about a metre from me as I did a downwind run last night past brighton on a DW sup. His answer to "do you mind keeping your distance?" was "Nuh!!"

For the record all the ski paddlers and clubbies have had enough. Why go so close it is just so pointless.

Not condoning it but I have done surf ski paddling, surfing and a bit of SUPing (not in the conditions you do it in) and knowing what I know about all the sports I would not be concerned about kiters.

Turning the tables, ski's are just as bad going down a wave - the minute the rudder comes out the water there goes the control wiping out anybody in the path of a 7m long Fenn / Epic or even the plastic crap ones rolling down with the wave.

And I would think the same would happen with kneeboards and downwinding SUPs.

Actually didn't a Clubby loose his life due to getting hit by a ski over east. No disrespect intended.

We have no problems with kiters being out there and i most definately would rather be hit by a kiter the a 14ft sup or ski, but that wasnt the point of this post.

Im not saying that this is all kiters and totally agree that there is knobs in every sport that ruin it for others.....espeshly SUPs (my chosen sport). But all Hilly and myself now are saying is that we are 2 of very few SUPs that do arvo DW runs and like Hilly said we are probobly 400m plus offshore it takes us less the 30 seconds to get threw each of the popular kite spots and we just struggle to see why it is so hard to keep the distance for that short time..

We are not trying to start a war we just dont want to see your jumps a meter from us or be taken out by someones kite or by themselves when it is so easerly avoidable..

Hilly raises a good point.

He is a very good kiter (although he is probably embarassed to call himself a kiter these days) and knows full well how much control most kiters have got.
The way I see it that is his point, kiters can turn whenever and where ever they want pretty much, where as a SUP on a DWer is pretty much just going in a straight line well offshore.
More than likely the kiter was probably trying to show off, when in reality Hilly could out kite the majority of kiters on this forum.

I myself a couple of weeks ago saw two kiters, within seconds of each other, cut straight infront of the same ski doing a DWer, so close that the bloke on the ski was actually backpaddling to avoid hitting them, not 100% sure but to me it looked like they were playing chicken with him and misjudged the speed he was travelling.

I know sometimes when heading out with the sun low SUP's and in particular ski's can be hard to see and I myself have got closer than I should but these guys were heading back in.

Keep your distance guys and girls you are not impressing anyone.

Maybe I should explain it another way.

Warn the offendor once, warn him twice, warn him thrice then smack him in the nuts with your paddle instead of whinging on.forums.

If you can't reach his nuts, follow him in and have a chat with him and show him your paddle.

Imagine how exciting down winders will become. Firstly you must look intimidated
as the kite dork comes flying toward you, then whamo paddle across the head.

One maybe two casualties every down winder, what a feeling.

Obviously you have no understanding of anyone else's point of view. That is the real issue, have a think about how others see kiters before posting trivial comments like that.

400 meter off shore is not far for a kiter if working upwind to get back to some good waves.

If both of you had been holding the same direction for some time and you guys just happen to meet, providing he past behind you and on the down wind side then there is very little chance of anything bad happening. Perhaps he was even being courteous by changing coarse slightly to actually pass behind you.

If he passed in front of you and upwind, well yah that is stupid.

If he passed 1m from you to do a trick 400 meters offshore call him what ever you want

Stop being a bunch of arrogant show off pr!cks! I'm no angel, but if I accidently go within a few metres of anyone else in the water I'll always yell out a 'sorry mate'. We are moving faster than anyone else in the water and with that comes the responsibility of keeping away from other beach uses. If you can't keep clear, feck off to another sport!
