Its all stupid......But....we love it

Every stunt is doing something stupid. The guys a professional rider so professional's often do stupid things to portray the sport in an extreme manner.

As someone said, Robbie Naish and a couple of riders jumped off the side of an aircraft carrier. What happened if one of their lines snapped and they kitelooped into the side of an aircraft carrier? yeah, you guessed it, everyone would have said they were stupid, but because nothing went wrong, its "cool" and "wow" etc.

As a wakeboarder (or wannabe wakeboarder based on your "if we had a cable I wouldn't be kiteboarding" comments), you would know that even the top riders do stupid **** including parks bonofay who has regularly been seen doing railey's on the double up over trees, not exact bright is it? Would you call Parks a tool? I doubt it because he's your hero, or one of them!

In short, its an extreme sport, the professional riders do stupid things, sometimes they go wrong, sometimes people get hurt. **** happens!

Incidentally, any time you put your body on the line to do something you're doing something stupid...you have one body! You don't have to video it or be jumping over a house to be doing something stupid and you definitely don't have to own kite companies...most beach bans come from riders, not owners of kite companies. (Disclaimer - this statement does not include alex sanz who does not technically own a kite company or we could say most bans come from kite company owners based on how many bans he has created)

I think a few people on this forum take themselves a little too seriously. Chill out and take the footage on face value... fun to watch !

Now remember I actually own a couple of this tool's kites so am not trying to gain leverage for my brand etc etc. Still, having tried to extract a simple pdf for the excellent eclipse kites (on multiple occasions - with no response whatso-ever) it is clear to me that he and who-ever manages the company, wear velcro shoes and dribble a fair bit.

BTW I have had no probs with the kites - just wanted a user's manual that any other company would ship with the kite.

Yeah you don't have to be professional to get a sport banned... but making a video of yourself hitting a house and looking like a D bag deffiently isn't going to help.

He was sponsored by Airush prior to starting his own company so yes, he was a sponsored professional rider. As for the video, he successfully did it before he hit the house. The video would have looked pretty kewl if he didn't hit the house on one of the attempts and would probably have resulted in a whole lot of "fark, thats sick, man!" type of responses much like some of the other ones have done. Plenty of people have jumped islands, roads etc so its not like its a massive difference. As for the conduct of kiteboarding professionals, this is least of our concerns...I've seen so called professionals trashing hire cars in videos and lighting fires in their hotel rooms.

I do however fail to see how this is more likely to result in a ban when the house in question was owned/hired by them for a video shoot, or how it is more likely to get a ban that say someone, falling and breaking their neck on a slider. As for wakeboarding boats, the government has and will impose bans on any sport that imposes risks on the public, wakeboarding boats included. Don't fool yourself. What I will say is that this activity is probably 10 times less likely to create a ban than some of the people I've seen riding leashless or crashing their kites on the beach near people because they're trying to do their mobe's 10m from shore to show off.

On the issue of the railey from parks, sorry, it wasn't parks, it was shaun murray who did over the side of a tree with a railey to blind, I thought it was on a double up because he got a lot of height. Yes I do know what a double up is, and if you look at the video, its a tree in the middle of the water so a double up would be possible in this case.

The video was released nearly a year after it was taken, if he really wanted it released I'm pretty sure it would have come out immediately. The video was filmed by Kiteflix.com and not released at the time but from what I understand it was released a year later to a TV program without consulting with him. I saw the entire discussion when it came out more than a year back. Dimitri was came out and talk about the issue and what happened. Jason Slez from LF gap jumped an island for a stunt, I don't see people bitching about that.



A stunt is a stunt...it's people pushing the limits of a normal sport at risk to themselves. Its someone doing something in a sport that other people would not be prepared to do for fear of huring themselves. Yes, some stunts are insanely stupid, but thats what makes them stunts and not the actual sport. Almost every stunt is performed by a professional in that particular sport, because it takes a professional to do that. Professionals skateboard on the mega ramp in the X games and break bones. Some pro motorcross guys I know have broken so many bones they lost count. Base jumpers do insanely dangerous things, some skimming rock faces in wing suits or jumping from incredibly low heights.

Nobody is advocating the average person go out and do things like this...it's a stunt. Do people decide to practice jumping 25 cars every time they see a stunt driver do it in a bus? I doubt it and those that do, would probably have found an incentive to do it anyway.

Dude, Dimitri Maramenides is one of the most skilled riders on this planet and one of the guys who did push this sport forwards and made it what it is today, a pioneer, even though I agree that this stunt might not have been the smartest thing to do but he is still a pioneer with all the tricks and stuff he brought to this sport. I don´t think you would be here on this forum unless guys like him did what they did.
Me? I would show some respect and learn some kite history.

I would never try dealing with his company because I don´t like his kites at all, I think they are crap. But I still think he is a great kiter and even though he messed up this stunt.. It´s like watching a car stunt, u know there is a large risc factor yet u still look at it.

Message at the start of this vid states to wear a helmet and impact vest but dmitri wears neither. You'd expect anyone(even a PROFESSIONAL!) with a brain to protect to at least put on a helmet when trying a stunt like this
