Now I'm going to have to board with a spear gun
Australian population approx 20,000,000
Road traffic accident caused deaths in 2009 = 1,136
(
www.infrastructure.gov.au/roads/safety/publications/2009/rda_0909.aspx)
1,136 / 20,000,000 = 0.0000568 ( multiply by 100 = 0.00568% chance to die in a car accident)
Number of kitesurfers world wide approx: 200,000
Number of kite surfing deaths this year = 1 (i haven't heard of any other)
200,000 / 1 = 0.000005 (multiply by 100 = 0.0005 % chance to die from kitesurfing)
Therefore approximately 11 times more likely to die from a car accident.
I guess you could argue that your accumulative chance of dying is slightly increased if you both kite and drive :-)
