has anyone purchased this kit. it is for mounting a camera to the kite. it look very interesting and fairly cheap...

Havent used it but didnt need to. I just followed these instructions with a few modifications:

Works a treat. BTW for many kites (including Rev and Turbo Deisel) you don't need to glue any velcro onto the kite - just strap the case round the centre strut like a belt and when you blow it up it'll stay in place.

If you want a W30 they don't sell them in Aus any more but you can get them from T-Dimension in Hong Kong (they're on Ebay). The neoprene case you can also get from Ebay (if you want one let me know and I'll dig out the sellers name).

Kitesplosh is right, you can't get them in Aus (checked about 6 different camera shops) and ended up buying from ebay user "Trading_Centre" - needless to say I was relieved when it didnt flood after taking it in the water.

I mounted to my SLE around the centre strut and havent glued it, but I think I might go for some extra bracing because it does move around a little, especially after a decent stack - which is why some of my pics are a bit crooked.

Be careful cutting the neoprene covers as they (the cuts) will tend to grow after some stacks which exacerbates the movement. My solution would be to glue the velcro strip to the back of the case rather than just letting it feed through the gap, although I havent done that yet. Its taken some pretty good crashes so far.

Its a shame the W30 is the only one around with an interval shot mode as its image quality is pretty poor - my 7 year old 3MP camera has better quality (Canon G1), although obviously the pictures arent as big. If the Olympus' had an interval mode I'd definitely recommend them.

I got the neoprene case from ebay seller "atomichh" (in NSW; I got 2 in case I screwed the first one up) and an extra battery from "bestbattery4u" - you'll probably need a spare as they are quite small.

The whole lot cost me around $360 including the spare battery (which included a car charger), 4GB SD card and case. Oh and about $5 for the velcro :)

EDIT: that Hero video camera looks pretty good actually - I have an ATX2000 (or similar name) marketed by oregon scientific and its quality is pretty ordinary, and it certainly wouldnt go to 30m. It also cost $200.

MMmmm bummer, sorry to hear about that tobes. I had read a few reviews on dpreview.com about them flooding and thus I was concerned the first time I took mine in the water, but I was only swimming and taking photos of other kiters so it didnt go deep (not that 3 feet is deep!).

I think they do have some disclaimer in the manual saying that it's 10ft of 'static' pressure, and that can rise rapidly by moving it around, or even getting rolled in waves etc.
The same is true for watches - a 100m watch is really only good for 30m, but that doesnt make it any less shonky.

i made a set up for my olympus 790SW and to get around the fact that it doesnt have an interval mode it does have 2 'shoot and select' modes
one setting takes 5-6 pics really quick great for jumps and tricks most cameras have this and the second setting takes photos every 4-5 sec if you hold down the 'take photo' button so i just wrap 2 wide rubber bands around it and it works

you have to launch and hit the water quick otherwise you have a few plain sand shots but otherwise its good

i used canvas glue to stick the velcro to the centre strut and the velcro to the camera case
i can put some pics up if you want or you can check out the how to section
only used it once or twice as im usually too keen to get on the water just have to make sure its aimed at you as i have heaps of photos of water and sand

i went on the above website and nothing much looks to relevent to kiting... what do they do.
