Has anyone seen who broke into my car at woodies today Monday the 11Feb between 3 and 6pm.

I had a new 9m North Vegas red and black stolen from my boot.

I drive a golden Toyota Corolla. If you have seen who took my kite please ring me on 0415 49 1638. Or if you now anyone who wants to sell a kite without bar and lines ring me.

Dont understand the police. I have clear finger prints on my car window and they are not interested.

Thanks

Sounds bad at Woodies..luckily not such a problem yet where I live. If the cops were serious about catching thieves they would sew a tracking beacon into a kite bag and leave a kite in the back seat of a car in full view until it got stolen. They are more interested in fining people for not wearing bike helmets...

I don't understand .. what are they gonna do with the kites? Wouldn't it be impossible to sell them? Monitor ebay, gumtree and quokka mate and hopefully the dumb **** will try and sell them so we can bust the bastard

Jeez Swissy - not your brand new kite.
What an unbelievable stroke of huge BAD.
After all those times when they could have taken your old kit .
So so sorry to hear this one.

One day these fkers are gonna pay !

ps - yep Sprucey is right - I found my stolen board in the quokka. Unfortunately (for him) after some guy had bought it in a pub. Perhaps also watch for someone wanting to buy a bar & lines ?

Ya, i really don't understand the Police in this country. They would rather spend all their resources handing out fines for doing 3km over the limit to good people rather than actually do some work and catch bad people.

Back where i'm from the Police put a lot of effort into using bait cars to catch thieves....they setup a car with cameras, place lots of valuables in plain sight and sit in a van nearby. Its worked really well to cut down on the number of thefts because even though there isn't much for jail time, the crooks get smacked with $1000-$10,000 fines.

If the police were smart here they would use bait cars and massive fines to make their money, rather then issue hundreds of tiny speeding fines.

hum..

i wonder about the merits of a "stolen" thread that we can keep an eye on when we browse ebay or quokka ourselves for newish stuff.

we only hear about victims on a thread which gets gets dumped down after a few weeks and is forgotten.

seems like every week theres another kite being stolen.
thoughts?

Ouch, that sucks big time.Maybe try ringing the local cashies to see if anything has been sold to them aswell.
So angerfying that people do this sorta crap.
Sure the police target driving stuff more, but what kills more people every year. Cars do. It is more productive for them to bust people putting other people lives in danger, than it is to bust someone stealing.
It is a shame more cant be done, but it isnt going to happen. To prevent it never leave anything in your car you wouldnt care about if it was gone when you came back.
Also, why does it come down to police money making schemes. If speed cameras are used as majr revenue raisors, why do we have like 10 in the whole of WA. Do the police men and women get commision for how many fines they give out? They are doing their job-busting people breaking the law (speeding).

I like the idea, but it's entrapment.
Never mind the cops, this sort of thing calls for vigilante justice (not that I condone that sort of thing )

It ain't entrapment

wikipedia said..
Entrapment is the act of a law enforcement agent in inducing a person to commit an offence which the person would not have, or was unlikely to have, otherwise committed.

The police would not be inducing any particular individual.
And wouldn't be inducing anyone that is not already a thief

I reckon honey pots are great ideas!

"Entrapment is the act of a law enforcement agent in inducing a person to commit an offence which the person would not have, or was unlikely to have, otherwise committed".

If the cops put valuables in a car and a guy steals them and gets caught, it wouldn't take much for a smartass lawyer to use your definition to get him off.
We all know how accurate Wiki is too.

It's been tried and tested mate, if it worked (ie, was allowed) the cops would be doing it. Instead, only shows like ACA and Today Tonight use it when they plant money in cars with hidden cameras and send them to get washed by low income schlo's who think all their Christmases have come at once, only to have Anna Coren jump out of a bush and lambaste the dumb bastard on national telly.

I understand wiki ain't always accurate, but close enough for me

peharps this might be a little more accurate

Black's Law Dictionary, 7th Ed
"a law-enforcement officer's or government agent's inducement of a person to commit a crime, by means of fraud or undue persuasion, in an attempt to later bring a criminal prosecution against that person."

For a lawyer to claim entrapment he would need to prove that the police induced him into commiting a crime he would not normaly commit.

How would the lawyer go about proving that leaving valuables in a car was unduely persuading an innocent person into becoming a thief?

Has the thief broken into the car on his own initiative?

Did the police persuede him to break into the car and steal the valuables?

Cyberspace lawyers

No defence of entrapment in Australia. Too many episodes of Law and Order perhaps

It would only be entrapment if say the window was down or the door was open. But if the guy smashes a window with a brick and gets the Ipod that is sorta hidden, sorta not, between the seats, that is theft. They use this system all the time back home and plaster all the videos of the crooks getting caught on the news to deter people. It has worked really well so far because half the time, the people stealing things this way are doing it for the rush, not major financial gain.

I must agree that somebody getting killed by an bad driver is more serious that getting a kite stolen, but it still comes down to money. The cost to the government, insurance companies and police to investigate a crash, prosecute the accused and payout the victim's family is what is pushing the police to crack down on bad drivers.

But all it would take is a team of 2-3 officers, some cameras, a few older car and a few months to smarten up enough of these little punks so that we could all enjoy the beach with a little more peace of mind.

I had my window smashed on my ford ute last friday night (unkitesurfing related).

They took my wallet and my cheap crappy work pants.

Next to my wallet they left behind:
My Mobile phone.
My Ipod nano.
My Car Key (and hence my entire car)
My work laptop.

By the time i got back to my car, they had already used my credit card to buy a carton of beer at the local bottleshop. I could have saved them the effort, as i already had a full esky full of ice cold beer on the back of the ute, but they left this as well. Maybe they didn't like carlton dry...

Weird.

If something doesn't belong to you, and you take it, no matter how easy it is to pick up i.e. break a window or simply lying on the beach...you're a FKN Thief!....I FKN Hate Thieves![}:)]

Do you work in canningvale? Jail bird prioritys - clothes, money and beer.

As Cockburn Rate payers we get charged $55.50 security service levi for every property (vacant blocks included), for regular patrols, including after hours assistance. Their powers are pretty limited but are enough to deter most potential thieves & their request to police would get faster attention than ours.

Have just spoken to them -

They do regular patrols to the Woodie beach carparks and there is a car also near that area. Any call would to attended to in 5 to under 15 minutes for suspicious sightings. He said any HOT tips are much better and would be investigated ASAP.

number to call is 1300 653 643 ALL HOURS

They didnt say but I would report thefts to them when it happens,( as they keep a log and might show them patterns.)

Please use this service for anything suss looking - it might be your stuff you save.

Ive paid this for years, this yr double and never made a call... if you are dissatified with the service please let me/council know for followup.
