All of us who value kiting in Perth need to rally to find out who this person was and what happened? Get the info. out in the open and now. By watching and mumbling to yourselves you are part of the problem....we need solutions. I say only tagged kiters at Perth beaches period!

Loose cannons and idiots need to be identified as the rogues that they are, otherwise they will wreck havoc on our kite freedoms in Perth.

Like I have said a zillion times....if we lose Melville, then the learners and nuts will appear where ever there are kites out........and one beach at a time will fall to the hysterical minority.

However, remember this is Perth. Common sense and especially courtesy come second to self centeredness, selfishness and ignorance.

I cant believe how many morons are about these days. Things really need to be spelled out for these knuckleheads.

Met the guy yesterday whose rear windscreen was broken - he's a kiter who lives locally.

I'm low on details on *why* it happened - something about the guy not actually being attached to his kite - but either way he let it go, the bar smashed the guys windscreen, and kite went across the road and got caught on the second storey of a house across the road.

If you're doing things properly, this stuff shouldn't happen at Melville. Sure the winds can be variable, but if your kite is always over the water and your safety systems are setup and used, the damage should always be restricted to the kiting side of the road.

Bloody annoying.

How many windscreens would have been broken by stray golf balls????

One kite incident and suddenly the subject of banning kiting is raised again.

I am all for safe practice and against stupid behaviour and positive encouragement to newbies but stop adknowledging guilt and talking with councils, please don't approve of banning areas on behalf of all kiters.

Melville is a very safe area with no powerlines and shalow flat water, respect the rules already in place and stay past the markers but if an incident occurs once in a while,please don't make a mountain out of it.

Don't post about it and don't give aggro to the minority of stupid cashed up residents frothing at the mouth with the opportunity to collect a Kodac moment.

The days that there are no accidents she is so disappointed, she is sitting in back of the window with her camera and checking seabreeze forecast and thinking;

"Bring on the summer's sea breeze, where are all the kiters?"

We are the only hobby she have guys, if they ban us from there she have nothing to live for, she might even kill herself.

Obviously there are some tireless folks out there attemptin to create a good vibe and minimise disturbance from kiting etc. However, me thinks some kiters need to remove their head (and blinker assembly) from their butts.

Try to think for a moment what it is like to actually live in the area if you are not a kiter/poley?

Regardless of the reasons, blame, noobs, Euros (whatever) you would get p!ssed pretty darn quickly if your peace n quiet - or worse your property - were potentially damaged on a semi-regular (even occasional) basis all summer. A quick peruse of this site confirms that these 'incidents' happen roughly weekly.

Remember some folks, including the old lady that got bagged here, have lived there longer than kiteboarding has even existed. She has a very justified position and why wouldn't she be doing everything she can to get rid of this menace that has ruined (for her at least) the tranquil vibe she paid mega-bucks to enjoy? The poor old duck probably doesn't even feel safe to stroll in the park on the weekend or arvos. Seriously - that is fkd and a shame for folks/kids etc like her.

KITES are the problem - not residents. GET IT?? Residents pay big money/rates to live there. Kiters use/abuse the public space for no $$ at all. Still think Kiters are getting a raw deal?

In case you still can't get past the blinkers how would you feel if a skate park, motorcross venue etc etc, suddenly appeared accross the road one summer with the accompanying circus and problems becoming a bigger pain in the freckle each year? You'd be camped on the veranda with the camera ready to help rid yourself of these pests pronto I bet.

BTW, bl00dy good thing the window that was damaged was a kiter's car or it would be on for banning already and the season is only just starting.

I was there when it happened, didnt see it happen but saw a girl running on the beach and asked her what had happened.
She told me this: Apparently she had landed someones kite and put it down on the beach, the guy disconnected from the kite and when she wanted to put sand on kite to secure it she let it go with both hands and the kite flipped over and flew away.. that is if this was the same incident.. i saw more then one incident that day..

I am not trying to say these folks have a greater claim to public property than anyone else. Residents property/cars have been damaged before and no doubt will again, despite all the best precautions and intentions.

I was also talking about people who just want to enjoy the public facilities in that area. Yep - there are other options around too. As you say beer swilling tools are a pain and if one rampaged into your yard/through your picnic/garroted your child I imagine you'd be wanting a fair few choice words with the Bundy fiend.

I don't kite on the river but from what i have read I'd agree with you that the majority of kiters there have their heads on correctly.

My point is though that residents aren't causing problems, kiters are. When was the last time you saw an unattached house cross the road, rampage through a picnic and end up stuck in a tree (dislodging a Cabrinha in the process).

It only takes one tool a day to create havoc. Everyone (kiter or not) would be justifiably p!ssed if they had to put up with this cr@p on their doorstep every windy day. Every windy day - think about that for a sec. Not just the 2 days you may go kiting there a week, every bl00dy day in summer there is wind. The poor buggers must be stoked when a windless week comes along. They can humbly enjoy their surroundings and maybe even go for a picnic at the water with their kids without a clown circus.


Anyway - don't get me wrong i am not calling for a banning etc, but criticising the residents is off camber I reckon.

Sumpin about boom mtimes seem to bring out the worst in excess and selfishness. All cash - no brains or concern for fellow beings. Sad.

Big mouths who don't kite at Melville should keep their mouths shut.

Melville is many a kiter's local...some kiters actually live in the neighborhood.....get it fellas. We like the place, the grass, easy in and out, no low life criminals. Please respect our beach by keeping kites out of trees etc. and do your learning out from the shore.

The river is a totally underutilized Metro resource. Before kiters the place was almost devoid of people. No one swims in it, too shallow for boating, the water is tepid and warm.............need I say more.
