My guess is autopilot, wonderful things that allow you to enter in a waypoint or route (set of waypoints) and it will navigate the boat straight to the point so you can go and fetch a beer or whatever whilst underway.
You've just got to be careful when you set them that there is nothing in the way because they don't stop for anything.
Probably hit the home point (his pen on the otherside of the breakwater? I don't really know the area) miles out to sea and either fell asleep or lost concentration.

I was downstairs with 2 Norweigian backpackers when this happened.....

Why do women always laugh at me?
