I decided 2 start this THREAD...

YOU ARE @ the office, you whip out the mobile/laptop/go on the desktop computer ... and you view the current wind reports on seabreeze's website.
BUT JUST THINK....

What would we do without Seabreeze's weather/wind/waves forecasts?
-Go back to the ol' historic way of doing things? ... refer to images
Instead of the GREEN ARROWS... imagine : looking @ the trees whilst inland 300km; licking the finger & holding it up in the air , looking @ a tree's branches to get the general direction of wind...

Thank the Lord for technology!

What's YOUR take on the progression of technology & how it affects our sporting industry -kiesurfing,surfing, snowkiting etc?

with out current technology, we wouldn't have kite surfing let alone a wind forecast or wind read outs. as the years go on we are going to be a race of human beings reliant on technology to help us out in many ways which we would usually do unaided.

i am only 16 seeing kids during the summer sitting on there computers all day when the sea breeze is up makes me mad! THIS IS THE CAUSE OF OBESITY!

why play video games when you can be out on the water?

technology can be a great help but it is also a curse to our up coming generations and many after it.

what where you doing when you where 16? what was your entertainment at the time?

i am just wondering because it seems no one can get get happiness from the simple pleasures in life, i makes me sad to see whats happening to this world

any way to leave on a good note SUMMERS COMING!

It wouldn't be that bad, you'd just have to be on permanent standby. Gear ready to rock, phonenumbers ready to call, escape plan from work/uni/school/family all sorted.
Everyday would be more extreme, the suspense, the thrill, it'd be like being a firefighter, just waiting for the call.

A trusty weather stone would come in handy though

I recon technology is good for it though. Can get several different forcasts in a few minutes, can arrange stuff super easy. And it keeps the chubbies inside.

Nice comment Coose - I agree, the whole internet/facebook/texting thing is out of control. What happened to throwing the football around or going down to the cricket nets.

Anyway, gotta love seabreeze, but my final confirmation is the old reliable indicator tree - wherever Ive lived, Ive always got a favourite indicator tree I can see from my place which I know what it should look like when the wind is really on. Love it when the indicator tree is going off!!

Great topic, as we often forget just how much time technology can save us.

I can remember the days when I had no idea of how the weather worked .. random treks to the beach to see if there was swell, or wind, like a lottery trying to score a great session!

This is interesting:

But now I get to waste WHOLE days sitting on the beach waiting for the wind because the weather man with all his TECHNOLOGY was wrong with his forecast!!

I can think of a lot worse places to waste a day... .. I saw a fishing sticker that said .."a bad day fishing beats a good day working"

the only place to be when a summer seabreeze is blowing is the beach!
heaps of my friends are dissapointed when it starts to crank up, but the forecasts here are awesome. i look practically everymorning before school to see if its worth it. summer is coming

Re: WINDFREAKS, ROADTRIPS and the INTERNET.

Being plugged-in to this technology often brings about its own unique brand of anxiety.
This wind-in-the-mail mentality can breed a mood of unrealistic expection.
Frustration used to be taken in ones stride.....
in fact it was the mark of the intrepid windrat.....
the ability to deal with downtime in the desert.

Internet forecasting sites have taken on many of the aspects of online shopping,
where riders simply order up swell and wind that they want, click for immediate delivery.....
and then are disappointed when the conditions finally arrive but don't fit the model.

All the new technology in the world only makes us want to hurry around more.
Yet time remains the most precious of all commodities.
All anyone has to do to cash in on those riches is to slow down a little bit,
rearrange some priorities, and overcome your fear of the unplanned and the unknown.

Technology may have made kitesurfing more efficient in many ways....
but that doesn't mean you need to quarantine your trips to brief, micromanaged bursts.
The gift of the Information Age , after all, is knowing your options....
not your destiny.....
and those folks who plan out quick and seamless trips are missing out on the whole point of leaving home in the first place.

Raw adventure will certainly find you......
when you haven't dialed-up your experiences in advance.

LOL,
I love this one, it's from a 1954 electronics mag showing what a home computer might look like in 2004 !!
The article stated that "with it's teletype interface and Fortran language it will be easy to use"

Thanks for the insight Slave, I guess we' can all adopt that attitude when we retire tho.
For the rest of us who still have to commute, work all week to pay the bills and feed the family, spend time with our kids (so they don't sit in front of the tube or pooter all day), try to keep fit, etc... good forcasting helps us maximise the little time we do get for recreation and smelling the roses.

i've had many epic kite and surf sessions with nobody else out because they never bothered to stick their head out the window and look.
sometimes it just takes a quick glance at the clouds/trees or even the synoptic chart in the paper to see that the online forecast may be wrong.
