There is a massive super trawler about to rape the oceans of Australia taking everything in its path (and not one post to date about it here on the forum), yet the idea of going after the great white shark and there is endless protest here on how we need them for our ecosystem and what beautiful creatures they are. How deep do you great white supporters bury your head in the sand? Do you get sand in your eyes???

Hey - why do U think we have marine parks - so when the rest of the oceans' have been raped - we can still offer a good serve for a small fee (=someone else's profit).

That level of investment should have been placed into fish farming instead of moving round the world leaving Fish bones and a graveyard at each visit.

But lets face it so much opposition to a mining tax (i.e. nationally we got rolled by a slick advertising campaign and political opportunism) - U reckon this is going to be stopped?? Show me the way - I will gladly add my voice / letter of objection.

Click on the links above, in one of the threads I added links to various petitions and groups.

Yes on the fish farming by the way. It's not easy but it IS the way of the future. Imagine if we didn't farm the land - we just hunted and poured all our tech into bigger and better hunting methods and vehicles. We would have cleaned out every last corner of the land and be down to eating mouse sized mammals by now. Much the same with oceans, we only eat the **** fish now, all the good ones are gone.

Geez! You read all the forums!!!! (none in the kitesurf general). Anyway there are facebook pages (look up super trawler) and you can get the MPs who are responsible email addresses and voice your opinion that way, or a petition is also going around (or you could be really cool and go all commando on that sh*&t, but the level of security when it ports is massive (I wonder who pays for that??))

Whats the difference between this supertrawler and a company running a fleet of ten trawlers? The results are the same. ......?

The trawler won't be aiming to catch/kill endangered fish. The great whites are endangered that's what makes killing the great white bad for the eco system.

Aiming Not to catch/kill?? It takes what ever is in its path? I'm no greenie (I once left a surfboard at the beach when I got stung by a cobbler!) but surely this is raping the ocean?? And how long do the fish that are not needed get thrown back into the ocean? Is there a survival rate?? Hopefully smaller trawlers have a much better rate (less fish to sort out?)

And with all the marine protection areas in WA at the moment its kind of ironic that they let this thing swing past on the other end of Australia. And we don't own it??

Anyway rant over, just amused me a little of the outcry of killing off a few big sharks yet we can sweep the ocean floor if it makes $$$

They're not aiming to take the other things in its path though.. straight out hunting for endangered species is very different in my eyes.

I don't agree with the trawlers either though but I reckon it is just not really related. Both using the big trawler and killing great whites is stupid

Just wondering what the **** this has got to do with kitesurfing general. If you want to whine head over to shootin the breeze and deposit there. Wondering if mods are even monitoring anymore.. Time to look at cleaning up the board maybe?

Quote from National Geo website "There is no reliable data on the great white's population. However, scientists agree that their number are decreasing precipitously due to overfishing and accidental catching in gill nets, among other factors...!

I'm a bit torn.

I like cheap fish prices at the supermarket, yet I don't like the idea of over-fishing, yet we can't have it both ways.

Don't it always seem to go
That you don't know what you got 'til it's gone
They paved paradise and put up a parking lot

Don't blame the trawlers/fishermen, they are just trying to fill the demand. The problem, as usual, is there's too many mouths to feed. Too many people & limited resources. Maybe you could all boycot bought seafood & then the fishing industry would have to close down.
