Hi all!!

First time poster here, long time lurker. Beginner kitesurfer!!!

I have been learning on a stonker surfboard about 5'6" with straps, on flatwater, though i would eventually like to be proficient enough to get out in the ocean and at least do a downwinder.

I am 58kgs and have a 9m Rev. I have progressed through trainer foils, 3m 4 line kites and my kite control is apparently quite good for a beginner, but I have never surfed.

I was getting lessons off the former Mr Ezza but that has been canned..... dammit!

So here I am... can anyone recommend a board that is still stable and forgiving for a learner to ride around on flatwater (I can get up and riding, have had a few lessons, but still have a LOT to learn) and which will then be OK for my first transition to riding in the ocean. I have not used a twin tip at all (basically because former BF was strictly an unhooked in the waves kinda guy

I might try a twin tip, the only problem with that for me is it is a decent swim across the channel here at Port Macquarie with all my gear to get to the start / launch point, and a surf board would allow me to paddle...

Is it possible to launch your kite before you head over? Then you could either Body drag over the chanel, then jump on your board... Or just kite over to your desired spot....

Sandman has a point about boad size - I weigh 65kgs and Ride a 132 Flx board with no difficulties... Ideally you want something about 128-130 when your up and riding, 125 is really small, and will limit your board choices significantly - Especially on the 2nd hand market these days. 135cm will get too big once your well powered, but it will speed up your learning curve heaps...

Hi Im 15 and Im your weight, I learnt on a 130 x 39.5 Cardboard Tempo. I use this board with a 9m Nemesis on the flat water and go out into the ocean with my dad. The cardboards are exellent boards and there are so many graphics to choose from. This size is a perfect all round board for my weight. Am hoping to start riding my dads surfboard this season :)

Especially when one of his parting comments to me was 'i suppose that means I can't use your 9m anymore, can i'. Umm that would be a NO.

Problem solved... thanks to the ex-BF for lending me a board & thanks to all the people who PM'd me with boards to sell. Twin-tips here i come.

i would have thought a chick at the local beach batting her eyelids and asking for some kiting lessons or trying a board wouldn't get too much resistance. Your'e 58 kilos so you cant be too bad. Wear your nicest togs, a waist harness and act ditzy!

(If it was me I'd wear a thong and a white T shirt but it's a kind of a bo-derek fantasy I have)
